I took two days off work this week to enjoy the warm weather, get a good ride in and see the foliage in Southern Ohio. I ended up near Columbus after the first day, so yesterday, I went to Iron Pony to look at helmets. I was using a cheap GMaxx MD-01. The unlock mechanism broke on it a while back, and GMaxx had not returned my emails or phone calls about getting replacement parts to fix it. So, I have been researching new Modulars. The nice thing about Iron Pony is they have a huge selection. I was able to try on multiple helmets and almost bought the C3 Pro. Nice helmet, just a little tight around my forehead. I liked some of the ones in the $300 dollar price range also and was debating with myself if I could spend $600+ on a helmet. I had ignored the Shoei Neotec II because I use a Cardo, and didn’t want to switch to a Sena sound system. The Salesman insisted that I at least try it on, and ignore the Sena part of it. As soon as I slipped the Neotec II on, I cussed, because I new I had just decided to spend too much money on a helmet. I bought it, and a Cardo mounting kit. I did a down and dirty install of the Cardo in the parking lot and headed down the road towards Hocking Hills for some, “me” time. I did 7 hours in the saddle with the new helmet and it’s comfort was amazing. It’s crazy quiet and gets great airflow. I still need to change my old JBL speakers over to it, and do a better install of the wires and such. But, I really enjoyed it. I am curious what the Sena system would sound like in it, since it’s designed for it. But, I do like jamming out while riding. Still not sure if it is worth the price, but it is definitely the best helmet I’ve ever wore.
