I have read through this whole thread. I have a Vee2 with 1000 miles and no idle hammer. I did have a 2012 Vee that exhibited idle hammer for a brief period when we experienced a run of 100 degree weather and I got stuck in traffic. After using Rotella T 10w40 I never heard it again.

I think this thread is lacking a really good example of Idle Hammer. There is one video that almost sounds like it has it, but there really is no mistaking it when you have it. I'm not sure how easy it is to capture it in a recording.

I think this thread may contain a lot of people that don't like the natural sound of the DL1000 Vee or Vee2. If you really start listening to every noise it makes you can make it sound a lot worse than it really is. I feel that way about my KLR. If I really listen closely to it I start to hear things that I normally just ignore. The sounds are always there and are harmless.

A good recording of Idle Hammer would probably ease the concerns of several owners. I wouldn't let this issue keep me from buying one. It also sounds like some on this thread have other issues that need to be taken care of. Please post a recording of your sounds.

I hear this all the time. Probably why the bike was sold! While this is a 2014 DL 1000 thread, the subject is exactly the same in both generations. So, the short answer is "NO" it won't hurt to ride it. The long answer is that anything that vibrates more than it should is not good for other parts around it. Specifically I suspect the chudder plays a part in the rotor magnets becoming loose. There is no proof, just my opinion.
Thank you Sir, we will be talking this fall.
Sorry to those about being in the wrong thread, I had just seached "clutch chudder" and this is where I went.
As a newbieI will say this, tons of great info on these pages, sure glad I joined.
Thanks again

ATTN FOLKS WITH "IDLE HAMMER"!

I have ten plus years on the internet as a molecular biologist, and I have formulated an oil additive that contains "SOUND INHIBITORS"!

I'm currently in the process of securing a patent and setting up a GoDaddy! website.

I could, of course, use any and all contributions you guys might like to send. In exchange, I could offer a free bottle of the SOUND INHIBITORS, with say a 100.00 contribution.

Don't be alarmed if it looks like ordinary oatmeal. I assure you it's not!!!

Do I have to use a whole bottle of SI with each oil change and how much will the 2nd bottle cost??

Try getting a recording of a Benelli TNT idling, that will put all the Stromers minds at rest!
