NAPA is on the list.

Yet there is a 375,000 plus mile Vee out there using Fram oil filters and car oil. There goes a couple of popular cautions down the tubes.

When I finally get the Mercedes Maybach I'll be very careful where I buy my filters for it. For the Wee, however, filter brand is something less than a critical consideration.

Not sure if it's still true of FRAM filters but when I rode a Bandit and saw one cut apart and saw cardboard end pieces I was not a FRAM user after that even for my cages.

So what? Remember, this is something that we THROW AWAY every 2500 miles (or so.) Who cares if it has cardboard in it as long as it filters out the dirt.

I don't know where Fram got this reputation as being a bad filter. I've used nothing but Fram filters for over 45 years. And 7 of those years I owned an auto repair shop and that's what we used. And I've never had a problem.

Also remember that oil filters on bikes is a relatively new idea. Back when I started riding, in the '60's, most bikes didn't have filters. And those millions of VW Beatles ran just fine without a filter.

Please people, stop spreading unfounded gossip. Let's stick to data and facts.

Let me get this straight; you have to change the oil filter?

I usually get a Wix from O'Reilly which is convenient to me.

Personally I would pick up a WIX filter at my local auto parts store or a NAPA filter if I needed one quick, NAPA filters are made by WIX, same filter. If I needed one at 2 am this morning then it would be a Fram from my 24hr Walmart, but I would try and wait till the auto parts store opened and get a WIX. I hate fram filters after having one fail, but thats just me. Cardboard end caps are just stupid. My Auto Zone has filters in stock also from Purolator I think. But, Purolators have rubber bands in them for some reason, at least the ones I've opened up. The Suzuki equivalent filter is an easy one to find around here, very common. But, I still order Hi-Flo filters in bulk, cheaper that way and the filter is well made for the money.

Remember you can leave a filter on for more than 3.5K, don't have to put a fresh one on every oil change. Every other oil change I put on a new filter, why throw money away? Ever cut a filter open and see how it's doing? At 3K mine still look new.

Big Box Inversion

Although I too can get Wix at O'Reilys, I found an online place where I could buy them for a few dollars each but they had really high S&H, almost as if they were owned by Jim at Eastern Beaver. So, to get the S&H down to a reasonable amount per filter, I bought a dozen of them, much more than O'Reilys would ever stock, about 48,000 miles of oil filters. With my self cleaning K&N air cleaner, I figure I'm set for life; leaning toward Sagebrush's approach. Since I did that, I have never gone out to a store in search of an OF.
