SOLVED!
This is where to short the pins!

If you look at these pictures, you can see metal at the top of the rectangular slots, there's plastic in the middle, and on the bottom picture you can see metal at the bottom of those slots. The plastic is mangled in the bottom picture after repeated attempts to jam wires in there. The metal at the bottom of the slots is connected to the pins on the bottom row.

I made a video showing the two

This is not the correct way to do this☝☝☝. If you put wires in the rectangular slots you run the risk of shorting the wrong pins, as the top and bottom pins are exposed in those slots. That's why it works for some, and not for others. This is the correct way.👇👇👇

The pins I used in my video were from this connector kit I ordered from AliExpress. I actually made a working plug, but for the video I just made a wire with the pins crimped on to show that's all you need. I only had 18g wire which is to big to fit in the holes so I used a couple of the pins. The pins are .6mm and 22g wire is .64mm, so I assume a few inches of 22g wire is all you need.

Took my 1050 in for its initial service a few days ago. Was wondering why it was taking them all day when I called them, and it seems the delay was due to dealership needing to cobble together a connector to reset the maintenance indicator the same way we've had to.

Not wanting to do more damage than just blowing a fuse, could someone please help me to fully understand my dilemma.
Above is a photo of my plug showing the wire color's relative to the pin positions.

Benthiesing post#9 shows the top 2 outside wires (black and grey) connected and it works.

Skinner post #49 says to connect the colors grey and black.

CGUENTHER post # shows the bottom 2 outside wires (black and white with red stripe) connected and it works.

Again dirtnsnow post# 109 shows the top 2 outside wires connected.

Am I right in thinking that it doesn't matter if you connect the top 2 outside wires or the bottom 2 outside wires and get the same result or are the plugs wired differently.

I hope the above make sense and you understand what I'm trying to explain.

You see the two small pins in service plug (the actual tool from Suzuki)? They fit into the holes that I show in my video. In my post #101 I show how the other two methods could work. The method in the middle picture is the the method that can also blow fuses because you can short the top and bottom rows of pins if your not lucky. Right picture would be safe to do because you won't short out the pins from the other row.

Thank you very much for your reply, its the confirmation that I needed to put my mind at ease.

I just completed my 600 mile service and noticed that the owners manual said to contact a Suzuki dealer to reset the service interval.

I gave my local shop a call and they stated that it needs to be plugged into their computer to be reset.

I’m wondering if any of you have taken it to the shop to have this done and if they charged you to reset it if you did the service yourself? Also, is there a work around for resetting this yet?
I have same problems I don’t know reset 600 miles

Been trying. Is there a difference, Canada vs whomever?

For sure, black and grey for those whom have been successful? Been breaking fuses.

I looked at my old weestrom(04) plug I made, has resistor in it. Wondering if that's issue.

I did my 36,000 km oil change this eve.

Taking the advice of previous messages (and checking first that I had the spare 30 amp main fuse) I use some aircraft safety wire and inserted it in the round little holes.

Worked perfectly!

Fwiw this is a Canadian spec 2020 DL1050XA. (which should be the same as a USA XT model.

Hope this picture makes it completely clear.

I just finished reading all 6 pages of this post, and it seems like you guys have it pretty well sorted out for the rest of us. So thanks a million.

I do have one question- is it possible to change the upcoming service reminder before the milage hits the preset number to avoid doing this altogether? As in, before the bike hits 600 miles can you change the reminder to 60,000 miles and then not get the light and reminder?

I've only done it 3 times and just set it to 12,000 km. Don't recall if you could pick a different number.

Really resetting it takes less than a minute. You could easily reset it while letting the old oil drain.
