I am retiring.....not going to chase the last dollar like some do. My wife and I have worked very hard for nearly 50 years preparing for retirement. I don't have to work to eat, so I am going to spend a lot of time in the RV going all over the place. Plenty of other stuff to do as well. Like motorcycle trips that I am behind on! Due to Social Security laws I cannot run the business as I have been ( at least till I reach "full retirment age") and take my Social Security I have been paying into for all these years.

So I have made the decision to shut down WERKS Parts on April 30, 2024.

Many of you here have done business with me since I officially started my business in October 2012. I thank you and the thousands of others I have talked with and done business with for your support.

Oh no! Well, first, congratulations on serving so many people so well over the years, and then personally for how you have treated me with honesty and integrity when I have called you. I wish you and your wife the best times possible. Will you be selling your business and technology so the Strom world will not be chuddering itself to bits? It would be a shame to lose the great results you have accomplished.

I would love to find the right person to pass on the business to. But this is a rather specific skill involving machine work....AND promoting a business. Certainly a labor of love, NOT a get rich operation.

Sorry to hear, but well deserved. You will be missed. Best of luck. And please keep stopping by and let us know of your adventures.

Congrats! Your clutch baskets are very popular. I've run into random Vee owners out on the road and when I ask how they like their Vee they often say "A lot better since I got Terry's clutch basket mod". If you aren't going to sell the business maybe you can release/post the design to the public domain (hopefully with drawings) so any qualified machinist can make one.

Certainly, all the best, during retirement. Very well earned, is my guess. My thanks to you, too, for all the comments, and assistance, to many. Much appreciated. Hope you’ll stay in touch.

It‘s been awhile, since we’ve given the retirement thread a spin, but I, too, am edging in that direction. Performance review time is upon us, and I’m thinking I’m moving to half time, at least through the nice-weather months. 64 YO, now…

🙂

Get your orders in now!!!

I cannot recommend the Werks basket enough. I did it on my '06 and it was well worth the cost.

I wish you all the best in retirement, Terry.

I'm a few years behind you but looking forward to it!

Congrats!!!
It's hard to pull the trigger on an enterprise that you are proud of.
But trust me, you'll get over it soon enough.
If you ride out to the Northern California area ... let's go for a ride.

Congrats, and enjoy your well-deserved retirement!

I'm honored to have been involved in a small way with the development of this fix. Many, many moons ago, I sent Terry my badly chuddering Vee's clutch basket as sort of a guinea pig.

The early version of the fix was fairly simple and quite successful, but later on he refined the process even more and made me a great offer, so I had him do the final version of the upgrade.

It would be interesting to know what the remaining "market" for the fix is; how many of these bikes are still out there "chuddering", and how many of their owners are willing to do the fix?

Here's hoping you can find a good home for the information involved!

BW Ringer,
I just order a clutch basket from Terry earlier today. I'm 61yo, been riding a motorcycle since I was 13. All the bikes I've had, I've never touched the inner workings of a clutch. I'm no mechanic, don't claim to be. I will dive into this and see what happens. I had intended to do this over the Winter but decided to wait 'til next year. I saw the post, and said, I better s^*t or get off the pot.

WOW!....first off...congratulations on making it to retirement. Second...sad news to know this "must have" mod is going away. I only rode my '08 Vee 100' (feet) before deciding that the clutch basket was heading to Terry to be "fixed"!!! Have not regretted that decision ever.
So Terry, if you ever find yourselves in Tucson, let me know as I would sure like to shake your hand and thank you once again.

Congrats Terry, Hope you have a long and happy well deserved retirement. I too have the famous Werks basket and it made a big difference. Also just came back from a HR meeting with a retirement date (almost) set in stone. I'm feeling kind of liberated right now! 48 years in the work force with 37.5 at my current job. I should go home and tell the bride, I guess.

I wrestled with retirement for a while. Didn't want to shut down the business on one hand. But I realized I had paid my dues starting it in 2012 and helping all I could. Current SS laws don't allow you to run a business and earn income till you reach full retirement age ( there are strict limits on income and 10 hours per week work limit...).
My wife retired about 3 years ago. She filed for SS last month when she became eligible. What in the Hell am I waiting for? We worked and planned for this. All is good....and I want time to live without worrying about running a business. Time to travel, visit, or to go to the movies at 1 pm on a weekday. While I am in good health. Many claim retiring means you are dead in a few years. I say too many wait till they have a health issue come up....that lessens their time here and certainly lessens what life is all about. I intend to be on RV trips for many weeks at a time, bike trips where I don't need to stop at rest areas to log in to get work e-mails. Don't mean I won't be in my shop, my 65 Mustang is going back together and will still take months to finish.
Don't put off retirement, Like you I too finally feel like a weight is lifted. Too many don't or can't plan for it so they can enjoy it. But that is a whole other story.....

Congrats Terry. I retired about 3 yrs ago and could not be happier.......well..........let's just say I am happy NOT "working". Ha ha. I am actually "working" (playing??) every day the things I put off doing for 30 years. I never get bored, always something to be fixed around here, grandkids to be Uber'd, vacations, lake house, etc. My income is good, I feel blessed. I do not miss my engineering job at all......just a different chapter in my life.
Have fun.......come see us!!!!

Actually my wife and I were looking at planning an RV trip to include the Eastern V Strom Rally. That RV park across from one of the entrance roads to Ironhorse ( across from the small diner) has expanded and would be a good base to explore from. Also gets me away from the tyrannical lodging policies at Ironhorse! Have a new XR 150 Honda to commute over to Ironhorse on ( don't think I want to ride it from Houston....).

Terry, I no longer have my 2012 DL1000 but you have sent me at least a couple clutches.
We also met at Ironhorse Lodge several years ago and we (Tina and I) rode to Highlands, NC with you.
Let us know if you ever make it back to the NC mountains. Would love to ride again!

I just ordered mine. When I bought my '04 DL 1000 the clutch was making just a bit of noise and has the slightest "chudder" so I knew I'd eventually have to go for it. I've put it off for a couple years now. Glad I'm on Strom Trooper and signed up for the updates so I could get one before they're gone for good.
Have a good retirement Terry!

I found this video on YT where a guy fits a clutch modified by someone else. I dont know if it's as good as a Werks-clutch, but from the video it seems at least some of the same modifications are made (new center, bolted springplate).

Seems to be in Poland with the contact email beeing:
kontakt@moto-sprzegla.pl
and website:

Just to be clear: i am in no way affiliated with the guy, and know nothing of the quality of the craftmanship. But as Terry is putting the tools down, i though it might be worth checking out for those not beeing lucky enough to able to get their hands on a Werks-basket.
