To increase a headlight brightness with the headlight relay kit - worth to try?

Hi troopers!
Actually I am new here and if there were such topic earlier - drop me a link please, i couldn't find it in a search line(

I bought a 2020 wee this spring, this is my second v-strom , my previous bike was the 2009 650 and it had a perfect bright headlight beam! Eastern beaver headlight relay kit was instslled there. Brightness of the new wee is worse, so I want to try to install a relay kit for the new bike. It has a different type of bulb as you know, so I should find another kit... The main idea is to increase the brightness and improve the quality of headlight without auxilary lights. Are there anybody who tried this on New 650-s? Can you treat this decision? Do you think it is the real reason of previous wee brightness?
Well, if you have any thoughts about it please, let me know! I will be very thanx for any advice

While the Eastern Beaver relay kits did noticeably improve brightness on first generation Stroms, I don't think that is the answer you are looking for on the later models. I have a 2012 DL 650, which also comes with two low beam/high beam bulbs. But it isn't nearly as good to ride with at night as the first generation V Stroms were. Those had the best "stock" headlights on a bike I have ever ridden with. Has everything to do with the shape and size of the bulb reflectors they had. The 2012 is a lot smaller in that respect, and that is why it doesn't compare in light pattern. The later Stroms using a single bulb.....just are not going to compare. I went with auxilliary lights on my RT for that reason.

See if you can measure the voltage at the bulbs while they're on (so you're seeing voltage drop under load) and compare that to the voltage at the battery to see how much of a problem this is.

I haven't worked on a newer Wee, so I have no idea whether there's much hope of reaching the connectors like this. It's possible on earlier generation V-Stroms.

I put Supernova led lo & hi beam bulbs in my 2017 DL650. They are the brightest bulb that I could find- 4000 lumens each beam (their marketing folks like to use the total of both beams) vs 2-2800 for other led headlights. Definitely brighter than halogens and wider peripheral light pattern and sharp upper cutoff so as not to blind oncoming traffic, IMO. They now hav a V4X model now which is brighter than the V4 that I have. They have a compact fan base and with a little modification, fit in the housing with the cover on.

If you put in a relay set it's only marginally going to improve the brightness since there is less voltage drop given that only one bulb is operated at low beam. Also there is less need to protect the wiring and switches for the same reason, only half the amperage.

I did it on my bike (V2 has the same H7/ H9 setup) but I think its overkill. If I were to do it again now I would just switch to LED bulbs, they are so much better now.

Thanks for your answers guys! Actually I will get some auxiliary lights just in case smt goes wrong with the headlight. Unfortunately here, in Russia, aux lights are prohibited. Police don`t pay much attention on it, but anyway they can ask for some documents and can even get my driving license. I`ll think about LED bulb, the only reason to say NO is that I don`t want to ride with blue headlight, In my opinion it is not very comfy to commute when it rains, isn`t it? I actually have never tried...
As for a voltage, the construction is typically similar to previous bikes, and I think problems seem to be same... Anyway, I will adjust my headlight and at the same time I will get correct info about voltage on the lamp
Blaustrom, I am not very strong at electrics but the difference between 2 lamps and one is smt like 15 watts. like 1 amp...

The H7 / H9 halogen bulbs are 55W each, but only one on on low beam. The older gen WEEs had 2 x H4 which are 2 x 55 W = 110W

So on your bike the electrical load is already only half of what older gen WEEs had.

If you now switch to a LED bulb with say 30W load you have further reduced the load. That I think is low enough to avoid future problems.

A 6000K LED is daylight color, not "blue". Should be no problem. Many threads here about which ones are plug and play (or not) on your setup.

Eleven time zones in Russia- nearly halfway around the globe. Think Honolulu, HI and Paris, France in the same country!

Thanks guys! Well, my hometown is rather old, like 800 years and it is considered to be an important "trader-town" in Russian history, that is why there are some cultural authentic places here. And there`s an idiom that one of the biggest problem here is directions instead of normal roads haha, so wee is a nice commuter here. Just don`t understand how do they ride their sportbikes here...
As far as we started, I will share here some pics of my stroms and views in the city

@Frolove Note that the LED bulbs recommended by Stuckonearth are H4, and will not fit your bike.
Yours are H7 and H9 and do read up on some of the write-ups here as your bike has very restricted empty space behind the headlight. I highly recommend LED for a much brighter and clearer light (Lumens) while using less power.

Sure, I know about the type of bulb, thanks! Looks like led makes sense. I've already started discovering those topics.
However, have anybody tried those cyclops adventure bulbs? I can't find it in the Internet and it seems like they stopped existing

Hi all,
I have a 2017 VStrom 650 and have tried various LED options on various bikes. For my VStrom, this has been the best accessory I have added. I purchased this replacement headlight at Suzuki V-Strom 650/1000 – HogLights Australia . They look great and the night driving experience is fantastic compared to the original.

With low beam (top four LEDs) on, the DRL is always on.

High beam is via the 3 lower round lenses.

Definitely a more noticeable light pattern. I have not seen that type of whole-housing conversion here except for Harley Davidsons. Kinda spendy, but I would seriously consider them If I was doing a lot of night riding.

As for full LED headlight, I`d say that there is another option by Doctor Light out of Poland. If I am not mistaken, it costs like 380-400 dollars. And it is just awesome light!
But the problem is, it is not an aftermarket detail. It is made of stock headlight, rebuild so to say
