This thread is for anyone that is on the fence and not sure if a V-Strom is right for you. I've been riding for over 40 years, owned dozens of bikes and ridden hundreds. I finally got a Wee last July and got it dialed in for my needs in the past few months. I won't bore you with details but it is completely off-road capable thanks in part to the Shinko 705 tires I put on it. Some wind mangement changes and a Russell saddle make it all day long street worthy as well. I can carry my wife, my 5 pound dog, and all our camping gear including fishing rods and tackle down any road or trail. I have ridden thru sand the past couple days over 8" deep, and although I was puckered at the time, I got through it. I rode ATV trails thru the woods and between the trees and even found the side-hill trails manageable. Gravel fire roads are a breeze compared to the sand and 40-50 mph or more is not a problem. To sum it up, this is without a doubt the most capable and versatile motorcycle I have ever ridden and is dollar for dollar the best value in all of motorcycling. Period.

You won't get any argument from me. I have the same bike you have including color, bought 2-14-08. And I just took delivery of 2 Shinko 705 rears and one front. I haven't mounted them yet but they certainly look nice and aggressive.

Same here, although I'm new to this bike, so far it will do about anything! Touring, high (enough) speed runs through the curves, this is about the best bang for the buck. No it's not a 'Busa, but you can't begin to ride a 'Busa all day long either. I can't think of anything this bike won't do. BB

Are you high?

You must have it confused with a custom chopper.

"Amen" says the choir...

Lord knows I freaking love mine. I've only owned 9 bikes (back to back to back with no break in service) since I started riding back in 1975, but I can honestly say that my Vee is THE most versatile bike of the bunch. It is truly a UJM that does most everything well and a few things -almost- outstandingly. Ride safe, ride often.

Reminds me of George Carlin's weather report. Dark tonight, clearing to light toward morning.

Stating the obvious. Everybody else just hasn't learned yet.

Now, while I don't want to start a flame war here, I need to point out the obvious flaw in ths original post. Zero in on the one true, key issue, as it were...

I'm sure you *THINK* all of this info is accurate and true. I'm sure you *FEEL* this is true for you, and by extension, others.

...but, here in a little place called "The Real World", there's one fact you cannot escape:

There are no such things as 5 pound dogs. Period. I'm sorry sir - you do not have a dog. Ferret, mouse, kitten, maybe - but not a dog. I have seen several dogs sh1t 5 pounds, but again, I am sorry to say, real dogs do not come that small.

Perhaps a stuff animal with a heavy collar?

In any event, there are any number of professionals who can help you sort through this issue, I'm sure. You'll be fine in no time.

Not sure what caused this confusion, but here's hoping it's sorted out quickly for you. A 5 pound dog... wow - THAT could be embarassing at a biker bar... ;)

...as for the rest of your post, great info - always nice to hear from experienced riders who are strong in their convictions - especially when they match what I want to hear. :D

You have obviously not met "KILLER" the toy Yorkshire terrier in full HD leathers.... lives in the Daytona Florida area.

Not that anything's wrong with it............

Had a friend whose family had a Male Yellow Lab, a Female German Shepherd and a Yorkie who dominated the other two dogs.

Funny as hell.

I still think we should all ride (edit: own) one of these:

Agree best bike around

I have a Wee and can say it is a fantastic all around bike and I believe that is why so few show up on the used market. Mine has some needed upgrades like most bikes do, but overall the bike is as good as it gets for around town, trips on all kind of roads and just plain fun. Reminds me of my SUV except it gets 50+ MPG!

I love my V-Strom. Perfect it is not. No bike is. It is great at nothing, will do most things well. Some things not so well. Its a modern day UJM.

The "Swiss Army Knife of motorcycles"? The Kawasaki KLR 650.

Noooo the KLR is like one of the good quality Chinese knock-off's of a Swiss army knife. Mostly works, but has bits break now and then - but hell - who cares, you only spent $10 on it anyways ....

The DL is more like the real thing, deliberately ugly, with too many bits you won't ever need and overpriced ;)

Cheers

This belongs in the 1k forum:sifone:
You know, Kick, it's the kick:cool:
Never rode a Wee but shurly would miss the kick:D

Sorry, but for off-road excursions I think the Wee works better simply because it HAS less power. On the nasty bits the bike wants to dig in and crawl like a tractor and I've found myself being thankful that it didn't generate lots of wheel spin. But if you wanna drop your bike off I'd be happy to beat on it for a day or two and do a real evaluation/comparison.

Vee or Wee - love it, ride it, take it anywhere!

Let's stay away from Vee/Wee comparisons and simply agree that Stroms are great, whatever your flavor, color, size, gearing, luggage, riding style or farkling desires!

I've had Hondas (400 SS, 750, 700SC), a Harley (175cc dirtbike!), Kawasaki Concours, Yamaha Virago, and a few others, and I know that other Strommers (just based on gray hair/no hair levels alone) have probably had every bike imaginable - but here we are, all of us riding (and loving) Stroms!

Great bike, and my favorite - it will go fast, keeping up with sportbikes - it's maneuverable, I've had it on the twisty hairpins on the race track - it's off-road capable as much as you want, depending on tires, options and riding capability (and bravery), and from my side, it's dependable and easy to work on and find parts for, and it's affordable!

Doesn't get any better, and even if it does, who cares?
