Suspension recommendations?

New to the group with a new to me 05 DL1000. So far my largest gripe is the soft suspension. Im a big guy @275+ and used to riding bikes with much longer and stiffer suspension. Obviously new springs are needed and I can do valves on the front, but what are some economical rear suspension options. I'm not a fan of dropping $1500 on a single rear shock for a $2800 bike. An suggestions? Any better shocks from other bikes that fit? Anyone mod the stock rear shock?

Respring the rear. There are a few people that will revalue the stock shock. I picked up a used 3 way shock for a 1/10th the cost of a new one and rebuild and resprung it for my weight.

Your still looking at 4-500 to revalve and respring yours.

After more research and reading on the forum, it appears that a spring swap is the cheapest way to go. Looks like many people are content afterwards, especially for the cost/ return on investment. Anyone else pushing the 300 lb mark have any input on what spring rate they're happy with? Or anyone have any springs available that were too stiff for them?

I have a leftover spring for a Strom. Dont kno the rate but the wire dia is 13.5mm. Like the Eibach springs listed to fit the stock shock...the ID is 2.25" & length is 8". Mabe this spring is a rate that would work?

Thanks. I'm not quite knowledgeable enough to figure out the spring weight but the eibach calculator puts it at about 628 lb/in which would still be a bit too soft for me. I think I'll just order a straight 850 and try that out.

Looks like I messed up on the specs when I put them in the Eibach calculator. It actually estimates it at an 825 lb spring, which probably would have worked for me if I hadn't just ordered an 850
