Hi All,
I have a 2019 650 XT, and I do my own work. I need torque specs to do the 600 mile service properly. I am unable to find a 2017 and later year service manual. Does anyone know a source?
Thanks so much,
Ray

Fox and DD.....thanks for the offer, but I will just bite the bullet and buy the manual. It is less than 1 hour of shop labor!

In the meantime, if I need a value, I will reach out.

Thanks again,
Ray

My dealer quoted me a price for the 600 mile service when my bike was new, but said I could do it myself if I kept my receipts. If I recall correctly it would have been more than twice the cost of your new book. (Plus I don't really like anybody else working on my bike.) Money well spent. DD

I agree DD. I am a life long dirt biker.... if you dirt bike, doing your own work is part of the hobby. Also, nobody cares for your stuff like you do! In addition, if there is a torque value for a nut or bolt, I use it. Not sure every dealer mechanic does.........

On smaller bolts I trust my arm more than than I trust a torque wrench, especially the wind up spring loaded ones.
There was also a dodgy name brand electronic one that put an aussie out of Dakar a few years back after a piston replacement and subsequent blown motor.
Torque wrenches should be top quality and checked regularly.

Hey RD, I just bought the same bike as you, got it Fri. Just ordered a new manual as well using the Dlr 1x 15% offer. Should come in apps 3wks. Per dealer, Suzuki doesn't stock them but arranges the publication of them. My dlr said all they do is change oil and inspect bike. I never got a price since I'm going to do it all myself too.

Update -

Got my service manual. At less than what one hour of shop labor costs - it was well worth the money. In fact, it is the most well laid out service manual I have ever seen. The service schedule has the specific page number for each step printed on the page next to it. No more searching....

Very happy.

All digital versions in english are pirated copies of suzuki's copyrighted manual.
It is accepted practice on this site that all discussion of pirated material will be deleted. Incidentally, things like wiring diagrams on such manuals are virtually unusable. Suzuki, for its own reasons, seems to keep the availability of service manuals limited.

A Haynes book covering the '04 to '19 years is available on Amazon. I don't know how many changes were made to the bike over those years. Would it be good enough for a 2021? The Haynes is a lot cheaper than a Suzuki manual here in Canada, $65 vs about $180.

I don't know about the Haynes book for V-Stroms, but their books are generally pretty good. The differences between the generations are probably addressed I'd think. If that would help you generally work on your own bike then I'd say it's a good investment for you. If you have specific questions that aren't addressed there you can ask, and someone here might be able and willing to look it up for you. I have a legit 2017 factory book for the 650, and I'm happy to look up anything that will help.
A good book to look for used is Honda's general motorcycle service book, which covers nothing specific to any model but shows how to do most of the common tasks related to bike service. Honda calls it the "Common Service Manual", I believe. I used to have one, gave it to my brother I think. I've found it to be useful as a standard of good practice. I've found the Haynes or Chilton books sometimes spend a lot of ink on these common procedures, and don't necessarily get it right. On the other hand, they at times add some tips or tricks that can really help.
This may have been mentioned before, but I think all of the legitimate factory manuals are drilled for a three ring binder. The counterfeits sometimes show the holes as a printed shadow, or no holes. But really, the quality of the real thing is nothing great. Good luck in your search.
Best, DD
