Rear Sprocket Change Theory?

My 2005 V-Strom has a stock 42 tooth rear sprocket; I'm thinking of changing it to a 41 tooth like comes on the 2006 and newer V-Stroms. I believe this change will do two things:
1) Improve the fuel economy ever so slightly by lowering the rpm's for highway cruising, and
2) Improve the actual ground speed compared to the speedometer's indicated speed.

Am I thinking correctly? I'm not really concerned with the slight loss of power/acceleration that will occur. Thanks in advance for opinions.

17/41 is the stock gearing for all years of the V-Strom.

Why would you "ever" want to decrease the RPM's on a 1000? And like Shep said......stock config is 17/41. Do you still own a KLR, or maybe you would be better off with a Weestrom.;) Any mileage in the 40's is most excellent for the big Vee, any more expectations is unrealistic.

I read all of these comments about I cannot use 6th on my Vee untill X amount of MPH all I can say is, you must be packing some serious weight or pulling a barn door behind you. :new_confused2::new_confused2:

I read that too. Further checking indicate each has the same capacity, 440lb or 200kg IIRC.
