Power loss after 5miles

Hi guys, I'm experiencing a strange thing with my 2005 DL650 (180K Km's). It will work fine for a few Km's but then after approximately 5Kms (in this super hot climate that I live), it suddenly losses power to the point that I have to get to a complete stop. It will not power off and it will keep working idle on 1300revs. The strange thing is that if I turn it off and keep it off even for a couple of minutes it will then start again and work properly (I guess untill it gets hot again). Any ideas? It is driving me crazy because I'm planning a summer getaway and I have to have this solved.
PS. I initialy suspected bad gasoline but I have since eptied and reloaded at least twice and the problem persists

Try riding with the fuel cap open, you could have a blocked vent in the cap this will cause a vacuum and stop the fuel flowing.

When you stop the air can catch up allowing the bike to run again.

Does your bike have a fuel canister ?

They can fill with fuel causing issues.

If you find that your bike runs OK with the gas cap cracked open there is a thread with great pics on disassembling the gas cap.

Try the fuel flow test.
A partially blocked fuel filter may do that - good to idle and run but cannot maintain flow at speed.
You may need to remove the fuel pump and inspect its filters.
Otherwise, I would suspect an electrical component breaking down through heat.
Is it one cylinder or both that shut down?

Have you opened and inspected the large electrical multiplug left side of the headstock above the radiator?

I am experiencing the same issue with my 2011 650. Tried with the fuel cap open-no difference. Gets worse as it gets warmer - will run well after a cool down, then starts again. Take about 20 minutes to show up while riding. Exhaust smells very rich when this affecting the ride. Feels as if the coil is breaking down. Do the 650s have dual coils or a single coil? Don't believe both coils would break down at once, maybe something else?

@GregM784

Dual coils one for each cylinder. They are mounted behind the V engine brackets just below the tank/frame. So if one of them dies you have a DL325 which is also consistent with the fuel smells if one cylinder isn't firing.
