How to remove the rear fender?

Is this even possible? I want access to the bundle of wiring in the back (for brake lights, turn signals, etc) to add some LEDs to my turn signals, but after getting the luggage rack off, and removing the two side screws, I couldn't budge the fender.

Basically, I need to be able to route extra wiring from that bundle out each turn signal stalk to near the bulbs. Was my fender just sticking, or is there a "trick" to getting it to pop off? I didn't want to force it and crack something, so I stopped when I couldn't immediately figure out an easy way to remove it.

When you take the rack off, you get 4 bolts, right? Once you have those, you remove the two side screws, which it sounds like you did. After that, you need to "spread" the fender apart to get the sides of it to clear the two side screw locations. You then need to "lift" the top of the fender to clear the rear/top rack screw locations. The plastic basically "snaps" onto the 4 screw locations, holding it in place. If you can spread/press it apart to clear all 4 at the same time, it should just slide right off.

Ah, that's what I thought. I figured it had to be some kind of tab-fit, but I didn't want to guess and put pressure on the wrong parts and bust something.

I'm right now trying to find an old PDF of a service manual to see if they have an exploded view of what you just described...but I'll definitely try that out, thanks!
