DIY Givi rubber vibration pad replacement

I have the Givi V46 top box on my bike. It's attached to their standard Monokey plate, and all has worked well in the 5 years I've had the bike. However, I've lost a couple of the rubber vibration-damping pads from the plate. This causes the box to rattle noticeably. I ordered replacements once from Givi, but they're not the same as original and don't seem to do as good a job.

While searching for the original pads, I came across a neat DIY approach to solving the problem: Rubber Buffers

It turns out my wife recently purchased this exact Sugru product for some other projects around the house, and still had a package of the black available. I figure that's just another example of the Motorcycle Gods smiling on me, so I think I'm going to give it a try.

I'll report back with my results.

Only a comment, I've dealt with that with other top boxes with strips of high density foam between the top box and mounting plate. If does have the downside that it falls out of you take the box off, upside that the far larger area does a better job of damping.

I realized I failed to deliver on my promise.

My homemade bumpers have worked really well.

One tip - If you're going to install these on your bike in a cold garage in January, they will take forever to cure. I ended up directing my free-standing flood light at them for a couple of hours until they firmed up.

I had a similar issue with the rubber vibration pads on my Givi setup, and I ended up trying a different approach too. I used a DIY rubber compression molding method, and it worked surprisingly well! I took some silicone and molded it to fit the spots where the pads were missing.

It’s been holding up great for months now, no more rattling. I was skeptical at first, but it’s been a solid fix. Sugru is a great product, though, so I’m curious to see how that works out for you. The idea of using something like that is genius, and I love that your wife had some extra around!
