Coming from stock Trailwings, got the Trail Attacks on today. Initial impression? These tires will get me in trouble.

Rock solid, confidence inspiring, smooooooooth, are the words that come to mind. I was taking it easy to scrub the tires a bit, or I thought I was. I hit a 25 posted curve, glanced at my speedo, and I was going over 60 indicated! Oops. I actually need to countersteer to bring the bike up out of a curve now--that may change when I start racking up the slab miles. I rode a gravel road a bit--my doubts about the tread are silenced. Biggest thing is that the decel wobble is gone! I thought it felt less squirrly, and took my hands off the handlebars--zero decel wobble!

Now to see how long they'll last.

They won a European shootout of dual sport tires. If my Road Attacks experience a short life span, I'll try them next.

Only got 4500-5000 each out of 2 Road Attack rears. They get squirrely after 2500 miles or so. Hope the Trail Attacks fare better. I'm on Battle Wings now and they are not the answer either.
That's wild, I have road attacks on and can spin em up a little in tight cornering but at 4500 mi and counting the wear is great with a good profile.

Awwwww man. Just what I wanted to hear!

Thanks for the post. These will be my next set!

I need to start looking around... Anyone have a source for Titanium peg feelers? Mine are toast, and that is running these stock Trail Wings!

How are they on gravel? Do they cut through it, or does every rock push the tires to the side? They look like almost 100% street tire. I would not expect much in mud, but I would like confidence on a flat gravel road at 50.

I only did a couple miles on gravel, and they seemed fine. I didn't let any air out of the tires, and they were very solid.

I'll be doing a lot more gravel on an after work excursion on Friday. When looked at in the pictures online they seem to be a street only tire, but when looked at from the side I could see the tread is definitely "dual sport". I'll take some side view pics when I get home from work this morning.

Edit: Here's the pic of the side of the tire. It's kinda dirty, the gravel road was a bit dusty ;)

I need tires NOW! My Metzler Karoo's didn't last at all, I didn't even get a 2 to 1 on the front. Granted I did some long tarmac rides this summer, but less than 5K for both is unexceptable.
I am headed to georgia for work this fall and want to trailer the wee down for commuting back and forth to work, so I am ready to purchase now.
Do you know who has the best price and got them in stock as wee speak? I have less than 2 weeks before I demobe.
Thanks

By the way..
Forgot to say that the rear Trail Attack had 0,385 inches tread as new, and after 4750 miles of "spirited" driving on mixed roads with sometimes very rough asfalt the tread is 0,12 inches.
Not too bad..

Who stole my rear tire! I actually called to ensure they where instock, then placed the order online, 3 hours later they called to say the rear one is not in stock! OK, who here stole it out from under me? WHO?
I put a 3 day turn around on the order, so they had to call rather than leave me hanging...for...3 frigging weeks or so....

By the way, I just called tire express, and they don;t have the rears in stock either. So either you got the last one, or you'll be waiting.

Buying tires online

I have a question for you guys buying tires online. How do you get them mounted/balanced. I have put tires on manually before (mostly dirt bikes) but it seems that street bike tire/wheels need to be balanced.

I mount tires with good old tire irons and plastic rim protectors. I balance them with Ride-On.

If you have done the wheel lock thing, then these tire will be a blessing. Its just too frigging easy after dealing with the dirt, rimsavers, and rimlocks. When you mount the front tires on the strom, you typically don't even need an iron, best of all...no pinched tubes.
This was last years C mas gift

Then I use the stick on weights. This little gem can balance a tire between two chairs if ya wanted too, all CNC and sealed bearings on the shaft ends, the cones centers the shaft in the rim, then use the wing nuts to tighten the cones onto the shaft, just ensure they are 180 out from each other for balancing purposes. I help my neighbor out too, it saves us all money. Should last a lifetime
It was 105.00 from http://www.aerostich.com/catalog/US/Compact-Wheel-Balancer-p-16806.html

I just got tired of the shop, and decided i wanted a new tool to be more independant of a mechanic, nothing personal. I just always feel I can do it better on everything I could pay to have done. All I need is some time, and my computer. I have this complexion issue, where I feel all dealers are out to screw me.
They say its contagious, pasted through the air at most dealerships, not sure how long I have had it, but this is the only known treatment.

Yeah, someone else got the last one. :( When I checked online on Tuesday, they had 'em; when I ordered on Wed., they were gone. :( So I'm waiting!! :( They're expecting them in around 9-1. We'll see.

Didn't get to the offroad yesterday. The deer I had to kick to avoid hitting and the pouring rain talked me out of it. That deer was the closest I have come to an accident since I started riding. I'll be thinking about it while I'm hunting this fall

Anyway, the tires were good in the rain I guess. I was actually riding along in the rain and wondering how to find out they were "good" or "bad" in the rain--I generally take it a lot easier and haven't had trouble on any of the four sets of tires I've used. They did skid out a bit, but I was heavy on the throttle when they did. I backed off the throttle a bit and they dug back into the pavement.

I'll try again next Friday!

Did about 50 miles of gravel/hard dirt today, I still love them. They track much better than the trailwings. Next report will be when they wear out.

Glad to hear the trail attacks are working good. I ordered mine a week and a half ago. Ordered the rear from www.tiresunlimited.com. Haven't got it yet. Found that prices were better at www.smalltires.com, so I ordered the front one from them. Got the front one after about 5 days. As mentioned--still waiting for the rear one.

Got the rear tire a few days later. Hope to get them changed tomorrow. We'll see how they do.

UGH! I got a nail in my rear tire, have about 2,000 on it. I plugged it and it seems to be holding fine, but I may get a new tire.

UGH!
