Chokes when hot

hey guys, been having some small issues with my V-Strom 2005 lately - DL 1000. When hot, it chokes and stops when I slow/stop in traffic. Does it more and more. No problem at high speed, or when its cold. Starts like a champ - always has... The colder the weather, the better it works. The hotter the bike, the more it has this issue. Been doing it increasingly over the last years.

My assumption was dirty injectors... or dirty gas filter. I have used injector cleaner all summer - saw small improvements, but it did not fix the problem. Planning on replacing both the injectors and the filter this winter.

Anybody had similar issues? Other things to consider outside of gas injection?

Tight valves as above will cause issues.

Fuel issues are more likely to show up at high RPMs not low.

The filter in the pump does a great job of keeping crap out of the injectors, unless the bike has stood unused for a long time I would look for other issues first.

I would start with putting the bike in dealer mode and checking the TPS setting do it cold and hot to see if its different, it is a quick and easy test.

Another test is when the issue shows up turn the ignition off, fully open and close the throttle 10 times then start the bike and see if anything is different.

Is the idle very steady or will it wonder and bounce a bit ?

Check all rubber bits on the inlet side for cracking, there are some rubber caps that will be way past their use by date.

It is very common for the throttle bodies to be dislodged on the 1000 when it back fires, check they are in place and then use wire the keep them there.

thank you! ok... very useful. And taking me in a different direction!

I use the bike every summer. It does spend the winter in the garage... I live in Canada - so, it spends about 6 months every year in the garage... I put gaz stabilizer. Garage is heated and the bike has practically no rust anywhere...

The idle is steady... what drove me to gas injection is I noticed the problem occurs less when the tank is full.... and If I put injector cleaner liquid on a full tank, then it seems to do it less.... but then again.... it might be perception because the bike cools off....

OK, will get the TPS readings hot VS cold... and will do the throttle 10 times.... it would be great if it is just a sensor adjustment!

And will start looking for anything that handles intake air before it enters the cylinders...

Thank you Rolex!

If things change after the 10 open and closes that would point towards a bad / worn TPS so it will be more than a adjustment it will be a replacement.
