not able to answer your question but I am very satisfied with motech stand, motech engine guards and tourtech skid plate.

 

I've fitted the OEM stand. very easy & very usable.

 

I have the OEM center stand too. First addition to bike and part of the purchase deal. I've never had an issue with it.

I can't speak for the Wee but the previous owner of my Vee had a factory unit and he said that after some time it started to rust through, to a point even where he was afraid that it would collapse so he took it off. I was at the TWT MG&E today and saw a couple with the SW motech center stand and for a couple of dollars more it's my opinion that is the one I would go with. I'm at the point where I need one my own self, and even though its a little bit more, I suspect I won't regret it once I get it mounted. I also heard that the SW motech one was overall easier to mount than the Suzuki unit (and the cheaper one on Amazon was absolute junk, according to the reviews I have seen on Amazon).

 

I didn't see a less expensive version on Amazon... doubtful I would have bought it though.... these are nice bikes... We rarely regret getting the tried and true farkles for a few extra bucks! ... though I might have opted for the cheapie on my KLR.....

I believe the SW Motech has more ground clearance.

 

There's nothing wrong with the oem stand. Been on my 07 wee since new, 140K km. I did scrape the tang a few times though (not much) so I removed the rubber stop on the exhaust which allowed the stand to retract a little bit more

 

Has anyone used the Vstroma stand? Seems almost too inexpensive!

 

Yeah, I have one. It works good, seems strong, haven't bent it yet, etc. It did have a little bit of fitment issues which were not too bad to resolve. Maybe, these issues have been corrected though.

Also, while you are ordering, you might want to get the crash bars too and then get free shipping? Their crash bars are pretty good looking, but like most of that Chinese stuff, the bolt holes are not perfectly aligned and you need to open up a couple of the holes to make it fit.

When I installed my center stand, I ran into three issues:
1- There was some bolt hole misalignment. I had to open up a couple of the holes to give a little more clearance to accommodate the misalignment.
2- The supplied bolts actually measure 40mm, not 45mm. Longer bolts were sent to me from VStroma, but these longer bolts are 50mm, not 45mm long, resulting in the bolts extending into the linkage area (as shown in a pic of a previous reply). To correct this, I installed lock washers.
3- The center stand did not pivot far enough in the lifted position. The issue was some excess welding on the left side bracket/plate. A bit of Dremel grinding and the stand now pivots to a satisfactory position.

Overall, the stand seems to be well built and I think it is a good product.

 

Related and unrelated, I picked up a used motorcycle jack for around $40, due to cost. Keeps the bike in the air when I need it to be.

 

That is exactly what I was going to do, but I haven't gotten deep enough into the farkles to have added a skid plate yet and after looking at the bike at length I am not sure I want to rest the entire bike on the bottom of the cases......

Do you have any pictures of where you place the jack? Are you using any spacers when you do?

The SW Moto stand is easier to use than OEM. Don't know why it just is easier to get the bike up on it. I have SW Moto and my friend O.E.M. His I have to push down hard and pull/lift. My SW I can put up with, almost, bare foot.

 

I have no complaints about my SW Moto.

I have been doing a little research on Vstroma and the reviews of them seem to be luke-warm. The one thing that seems to be fairly common is the "we just sold the last one yesterday but will have a new shipment next week". Some of the guys over on ADV mentioned this...... sounds like they may be a small company that is under-organized, but the general reviews of their stuff seems positive.

I remember quite a few posts about their other company KLR650.com over on the KLR forums. I will probably order one of those and give it a shot. I would like to order the SW Motech, but it is twice the price! If I could find a good used on for sale on the forums I would snag it, but they don't seem to be common.

For you guys that ordered from Vstroma, was the shipping decent? I mean, you weren't waiting months for it to arrive?

I have a Vstroma stand. Bought it in 2011. The usual niggles, had to file out a couple of holes, had to add a set of spark plugs to get the free shipping, shipping wasn't quick, but not bad. OTOH, it's been rock solid for these past four years, well made and reasonable pricing. I'm happy.

 

I ordered twice from VStroma. If the product is in stock (and it was when I ordered), the shipping was prompt and acceptable. I would certainly order from them again.

 

Thanks Joe.... I have read some good reports from guys here as well on the KLR forums..... But their email responses are slow.... sometimes makes me nervous.... I will give them a shot once they are back in stock. When I called the woman told me they had plenty, then got an email responses that said " we just ran out yesterday but will have more in a week".

 

I bought a 2007 650 V-Strom last week and the previous owner had ordered a center stand for it but when he took in to have it installed he was told it wouldn't fit because of the abs. Do any of you know if the VStroma center stand will fit my bike? Thanks, Robert.

 

Just installed an Outback Motortek center stand and I had no fitment issue on my 2009 abs.

 

Thanks, I just talked with Kelly at Vstromers and ordered his centerstand. He assured me it would fit.

 

I ended up going with the Outback Motortek stand as well.

Work great on mine, the lever to raise the bike is a bit shorter than the other brand from what I can see, but when using the right technique to put it on the stand it's easy.

My only issue is that I didn't have a 8mm hex tool short enough to fit so I could tighten to spec one of the bolts.

 

You didn't mention if you have had the tyres fitted as yet.

If not, check out the YouTube videos of tyre changing using cable ties.

I used tyre levers, a rubber hammer and rim protectors on a previous bike but I'm keen to see how easy the cable tie option works.

If nothing else it is great experience should you need to do a tyre change in the wilderness.

 

Have Motech stand on my 1000 and OEM on my 650, the OEM is the overall better stand in my opinion. Centerstands spoil me, not sure I could ever own a bike "other than a dirt bike" without having that option.

 

I would agree completely Big B. This is the first bike I have had a center stand on. Past bikes were cruisers and the modded KLR I sold right before getting a strom didn't have one either. The KLR had the bottom of an old crutch as a trail stand and it worked for everything!

I didn't intend to put a center stand on the strom but when I decided to replace the tires I realized that there was NO good place to jack it up...... spent way too much time trying to half-ass it and then got the center stand..... Holy Man does it make maintenance simple. Love it!

 

Just bought and installed a new center stand from a dealer on Fleabay, looks identical to OEM, very well built. Came with all of the hardware including thread locker on bolts, even came with a spring hook installation tool. Was simple to install on my '04 Wee, less than $125 shipped.

For the people who have installed the Outback Motortek, how is it holding up? It looks like it's only 2KG which sounds good, not sure on the other stands.

 

I recently got a center stand for my Wee. I went with the OEM Suzuki Stand and have been pleased, but haven't been off-road to truly test it. The OEM stand was mostly easy to install (the springs are a B#$%h), and has been great for me, but I haven't been thumping on it yet.
