The pinlock pins in the visor have offsets for adjustment. Rotate them to force the pinlock into to visor more, and make the silicon bead seal harder.

The pinlocks are a consumable also; eventually the silicon bead may break down and/or the plastic gets scratched (it isn't as hard as the visor itself) and it should be replaced to get rid of the "cloudiness"in visibility the scratches cause.

 

Pinlocks have to be treated very carefully, not just because they are soft and scratch easily, but because when you wash your shield you have to be careful not to flex it at all. Any odd flex in the sealing portion of the Pinlock will let moisture into the 'sealed' area which will cause interior fogging.

I much preferred the original Fog City version which actually used an adhesive to seal that space.

The pinlock works fine, as long you treat it very delicately when you wash the shield. I've never experienced the insert 'wearing out' meaning it wouldn't keep from fogging anymore; but they do accumulate scratches. Two seasons is the most I've ever gotten from one, usually a year and they're due for replacement.

I understand the Pinlock insert is hydrophillic and if cleaned with water must be allowed to dry thoroughly before re-installation. The anti-fog capability is more that the air gap. I kind of recall they are made out of something other than plastic (or less than 100% plastic) which is why they are rather soft. All I know beyond that is these things work very well. I have ridden in the high twenties (F) on other than a few drops where my nostrils blast out it stays very clear. Sneezing requires it to work a bit however.

 

Hydrophillic may not be a word or the right word. Absorbs water is my understanding. Or adsorbs water. Not a scientist and do not play one on TV.

 

They get old and wear out. About the same time your helmet does.

Keep it clean with dish soap and no abrasive cloth, install it correctly, and it should last as long as you need it to. A replacement, if necessary, is not expensive.

 

I have a pinlock on my Shoei X2. I made the mistake of bending it and it not sealing properly. As mentioned above, play with the adjustments. If you can't get it right, just order a new one. That's why I ended up doing and the new one works great

 

I got fed up with pinlocks, they get dull and dirty very easy, polish the visor with some anti dandruff shampoo,it stops it from misting up and your visor is nice and clear to see through without that pinlock mess.
