Battery Voltage ?

I was searching for info and came across a graph posted by Greywolf that made me come up with a question.

On the graph, with the bike off it said to check the battery at 11.9v.

My 08 Vee was new to me this year with 38k on it and I have no idea if the battery was ever changed.

I plugged in a Deltran voltage gauge to the Battery Tender pigtail and had
12.4v with everything off,
14.4 to 14.6 at idle and at higher rpm.

Now the question. Is 11.9v with key on but bike off a normal reading with the fuel pump and lights on?

I have not had any starting issues and seems like that sounds about right with the bike not running but was wondering what those that know think.
Thanks.

Your battery sounds healthy as does the charging system. 11.9 is nominal for a decent battery since the electronics wants good voltage. Much lower and the fuel pump and injection isn't happy. Bump starting with low voltage is difficult.
My Garmin has a voltage gauge and reads about 3 tenths low but I have a relative value to observe. Keeps the worries away.

Thanks for the info.
What Garmin do you use that shows voltage information also?

Not sure where the 11.9 volts is coming from, I assume it must be key on/engine off? 12.4 volts on the battery is low. 12.6 - 12.8 is better. Only check this after the battery has been off a charger for a couple hours at least.

Charging at 14.4-14.6 definitely sounds higher than normal to me. That indicates a charging system that might be trying to make up for a weak cell in a battery. I would have that battery load tested with a proper device.

Nah that is about right, my 1000 with a brand spanking new battery reads about 14.6 as it also did with the old battery.

The Garmin I have is an old, ancient, craved from stone GPS III plus.
Full of little choices like voltage, sun set, and the like.
Amazing at what information it provides in maps for being so old. I yanked the batteries and hard wired it. It's also how I keep track of my rear tire life too.
They are on Ebay for cheap. I paid hundreds for mine many eons ago.
