It's been pouring rain all day and I have been inspecting this new V and researching accessories.

I have this really nice expando CorTech magnetic tank bag that I'm rather proud of - but it doesn't stick to the tank.
Too much plastic there.

There are always those strap bags, but being Irish and lucky and all that, I'd probably rub the paint off.....

I was wanting a larger size bag - but careful not to get one too large that interferes with the handlebars.

What is everyone else doing for a tank bag ?

Thanks,
Kevin

I have a Nelson Rigg CL 1050 Adventure tank bag. I made some modifications to it, like some homemade gutter hooks that clip to the front of the gas tank rather than the strap that goes under the steering head tube. I like it; the shape makes it fit really well on the sloping gas tanks that most ADV bikes have, it's expandable, and it's well made and robust. Plus it was pretty cheap compared to similar styled tank bags. It's apparently been superseded by a newer version, the Trails End Adventure Tank Bag (RG-1045).

It's a strap type bag. Years ago, I started using tank film on my gas tank to prevent scratches and abrasions from things like jacket zippers, tank bag straps, etc. I've put many thousands of miles on the bike with the tank bag on the vinyl tank covering, and never had any issues with the straps damaging the paint.

I got my tank film from a company called The Tankslapper. They're located here: The Tankslapper: Paint Protection

Here's what the bag looks like on my Super Tenere:

The new version of the bag looks a lot like this one, except that the zippered pocked at the rear of the bag seems to have been removed.

Personally I have seen some disasters on tank paintwork using magnetic bags on days of long wet trips. Fortunately these disasters were not on my bikes.

I use this item.......

It is expandable and has plenty of space. There are two permanent attachments on the tank at front and rear and the bag simply clips on to the front and velcros to the rear.

I bought some kind of twist-lock fuel cap mount then mounted the other half on a magnetic bag I had used and liked on my SV. It worked, but not as easily as I had hoped. Lining it up just right was not as easy, but maybe I was too spoiled by the simplicity of magnets on steel. It also added just a bit of height which allowed parts of it to bounce and rub the paint on trails and washboards. The bike is almost 3 years old now. I could just rattle can the whole thing, but I'd have to wash it first. 🤪

Givi or SW Motech tank lock bags......no more worries and hassles of magnets or straps.
Yes, the tank ring mounts are the only way.

Straps absolutely eat paint and look like crap.

Magnets are extremely convenient if you can find a placement that works, but at some point the magnets are going to pick up a screw or steel shaving and wreck the paint. And over time they wreck the paint anyway.

Personally, I just skip it. I'm not a fan of tank bags for reasons I can't fully explain. But if tank bags are your jam, definitely grab one of the systems (Givi or SW-Motech, I think) that mounts to the fuel cap ring.

I think it would be cool if one of these systems would just allow the bag to hinge back when you fill up, but they both seem to require removing the bag entirely. All in all, they're 1,000x neater than straps or magnets.

Once you have a tankbag that locks onto the gas cap you will never go back to straps or magnets.

Don't be too sure. I'm still hoping to find an alternative that works for me. I didn't like the look of the mount when I wasn't using my bag. Sort of a nasty looking jagged gray plastic ring. Not nearly as quick and easy to mount as magnetic. Lining it up takes some getting used to and a small nudge sideways allows it to disengage.

Nice! You might find the bigger bags interfere with stand up riding. If that's the case you can move the mount plate on the bag to give you more room. Try adding a little silicon to the mechanism and ring grooves on the bag.

The handlebars contact the bag at full lock, both left and right, but not too bad

This is a slick setup. Easy tank ring install. Bag easy on, easy off.

My first tank lock bag. So far, so good.

Right on! The bigger bags do that. My large bag does the same. It's a delicate balance between the bag being too far forward or too far back 😁
