Verle L. Nelson, Vstrom Great and Website

I knew about Verle, only through a mutual friend, Billy Aller. I understand that Verle owned 4 Stroms before his passing.

DELTA COUNTY - A motorcycle crash Saturday claimed the life of Cedaredge resident Verle L. Nelson, 72.

Nelson was northbound on Trap Club Road on his 2010 Yamaha, when he attempted to pass another motorcycle while coming around a curve at a high rate of speed, the Colorado State Patrol reports.

Nelson lost control, went off the road, and his bike twice launched into the air, 20 feet the first time, and, after touching down on its wheels, again for 40 feet, after which it rolled and threw Nelson off.

He was rushed to Delta County Memorial Hospital, but could not be saved, and was there pronounced dead.

Verle documented his rides and explorations in outstanding fashion. I felt it very appropriate to honor Verle in this Regional Thread, as most of his rides are in the Colorado and Utah areas. You must check out his website.....

Unhappy

Oh no. I loved reading his website. I remember when he got his first DL650 and took it on a 500 mile ride over 11 passes, many of them gravel. He pronounced the bike OK; I has just bought mine at the same time and knew I had made the right choice when I read his report.

Verle bought a new bike every year. His DL650 page is here:

Godspeed Verle. Adios.

I think I'll take a nap.

Verle's website really got me excited about the V-Strom and helped me decide on buying my '09. His website is full of good information for noobs who are just getting into the V-Strom.

Sad to hear he's gone.

I never met Verle, but truly wish I had. I would loved to have ridden with him in Eastern Utah and Western Colorado. His website is a wealth of information on the V-Strom and other bikes from a guy who truly loved the sport and obviously wanted to share the best of it with others. Condolences to his family and may he rest in peace.
