What's the latest on the PCH?

All I can find on the web is that it's closed at Gorda for another few weeks. Wasn't there a slide north of the Bixby Bridge and has that been fixed? We're planning on running down as far as we can in about three weeks. It has been so long since I've been there that i can't remember where the best scenery is. If we have to, we can run down as far as possible from the north, and the next day head up from Cambria as far as we can go.

I live in San Luis Obispo and was just talking about this with a friend that knows someone in Big Sur that is following the slide. I messaged him today asking for more current info, but here's what I know. There were TWO slides, the original slide is out of the way but the latest is the Hwy 1 Alder Creek slide area which will be closed for 4 to 6 weeks longer as of Friday 4/22.

Check out the SCALE!!! That tiny little dump truck can carry 10 cubic yards of dirt. They can't get any bigger semis in there until there is a clear path because there's not enough room for them to turn around.

Got a response.

"Still closed.

Last Wednesday they helicoptered (Chinook) in 3 Spider Excavators and a Dozer to the top of the slide. They're finally working on it now that all the permits have been approved but CalTrans has not released any info to change their 4 to 6 week closure estimate from a week or so ago."

Thanks much for the info. As near as I can tell, Alder Creek is south of Lucia, so it looks like we can get about half way down from Carmel. It doesn't look like we should plan on it being open all the way by May 19.

Highway 1 to reopen to Big Sur - Breaking News - SanLuisObispo.com

I didn't write this guide. It magically appeared. You didn't read it. Knightstrom didn't write it. Knightstrom doesn't endorse it. In fact, YOU wrote it.

If you don't agree that you wrote this guide for your own use, do not follow this guide.

If you agree that you wrote this guide for your own use, and your Strom doesn't work after following this guide, its your fault.

We had a hard time finding Nacimiento-Fergusson in mid-May when we passed through. Locals told us that you had to go through the main gate at Fort Hunter Liggett. It made for an interesting ride through basic training, only to be turned around by a trench dug across the road. Bring a decent map as ours was horrible.

I wish you would have told me you were coming. I would have given you a guided tour.

Damn! If only there was a feature on my Garmin for StromTrooper hombase location. Then I would have known and certainly would have taken you up on the offer. I don't know how we missed it.

Since you don't know me...it's understandable. I'd like to ride with you sometime. I'm planning on venturing into your neighborhood (PNW) this summer. I'll give you a shout. Or, if you're ever anywhere between San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara and you'd like to know the hot spots, keep me in mind.
