A Windy Day on Pikes Peak

A long day with lots of wind, mountainside roads, cliffs...big rock formations...did I mention strong wind?

nice blog

Thanks for posting the pics and the story. The Peak was on my wish list last summer but way to much to see in Colorado so I didn't make it. You're right that sometimes the park rangers do have good reasons to restrict people and should be heeded.

Good read, thanks for posting the link. I haven't been up Pikes Peak on any of my bikes. I took my German Aunt up a couple of years ago. I think I'll have to plan a trip up. There are just so many fantastic roads in Colorado for motorcycles.

If the answer is government, then it must have been a really stupid question.

I may head out tomorrow for a couple hours. Probably early afternoon. But not Pikes Peak, too windy tomorrow.

Thumbs up

I was hoping you would post the wind reading.

I went out on Sunday, as well, with a fantastic route planned from Sacramento to Alice's Restaraunt, up the PCH to Bodega Bay and back.
However, as we approached Davis, a steady 20mph wind started to make me nervous. I maintained my 'lean' into the wind, relaxed my shoulders, and remained focused on the rider ahead of me, and then, Whooosh! 30mph gusts. One after another, and on and on. My front end felt like it was lifting off the road and I had never experienced 'wobbling' before. By the time we reached Dixon, I had used up all of my, "just one more and it'll be over" mantras, and had to pull over. Another rider in the group tried to give me some pointers and forge on, but I was done. This day was for the advanced riders.

Ofcourse, the wind cleared up 10 miles down the road, and they enjoyed a wonderful day. (But they still had to come home and ride that 20 miles of wind at the end again)

Anyway, nice blog and pics. Thanks for sharing. :beatnik:
