Pasadena Area info needed

A buddy was asking me about what I believe you locals call La Crest Highway.
His kid is at Cal Tech and he wanted to go visit him and do some riding during Thanksgiving weekend.
How are the roads Up the 2 and come back down the 39?.
Also can he ride up the 2 to Wrightwood and down to Cajon to return to Vegas.
Thanks for any input
Mike

YES!!!
they just opened the wrightwood side last year with brand new pavement. sweet. the passadena side suffered storm damage this year. i don't know if it's open but he can go up from Tujunga.
Foothill Blvd to CA-2 W - Google Maps
don't know the condition of 39 but the CalTrans web site is usualy up to date and gives the condition of those mountain roads. of course he'll want to stop at Newcomb's ranch, ithink if he goes up the 39 he'll have to back track toward Pasedena to get ot it. not sure.
then from wrightwood he can just shoot down the 138 to the 15 and back home to Vegas.
and we refer to it as the ACH or Angeles Crest.

Somtimes it sucks not being in the loop. HUH??

forecast this weekend is snow in the higher elevations. as far as i know they don't plow the ACH where it does get snow. don't know how much snow they need before CalTrans closes it for the winter.

39 does not connect to hwy 2. It did at 1 time but the road is not there due to landslides. Construction has started for that section but have since stopped due to the last fire that tore up the La Canada side of Hwy 2. You can catch hwy 2 from Sunland....about 10 minutes from La canada main entrance. That will go all the way into wrightwood. You can catch the 39 from Mt. Baldy. That's a great ride....single lane in parts but all paved and very curvey. Hardly any one else on the road. Check weather before going up. Many times I've been to newcomes with snow and ice on the roads.

Caltrans leaves it open for access to the ski areas unless it's really bad.....then it's closed only till things clear up.
