Anyone interested in a Ride / Meetup in Morro Bay?

I am thinking of taking a ride sometime in October (most likely the 2nd, 3rd or 4th weekend). Leaving from Sacramento. I most likely will take HWY 1 down there. Considering other routes home. Leave on a friday and come back on a Sunday. I was curious if anyone is interested in riding along or maybe doing a V-strom meetup in Morro Bay. I did this before when I had my ST1300 with the owners group and it was great. There are plenty of inexpensive motel options as well as a nice campground if you prefer camping.

I'm likely to be free, currently I have scheduled a Tech Day on the 16th but so far the 1 person has responded that they can come the 23rd (?) the following saturday so I may move it to then.

I too would have thought the CA group would be more active, given the strom population, usually good weather and variety of destinations/roads available. I figure most don't want to commit too far ahead and as it gets closer will chime in if all the planets come into alignment in their work/home life.
The 3 "events" I have been able to go too have been great. One was with just 2 other people and we a a GREAT time , so it doesn't even have a be a big thing to be successful.

Do you have a prefernce on which weekend? My father in law may come along on his ST1300. I am sure you are right on more people chiming in as we get closer to the time. I am actually probably not going to make any reservations and just find a place when I get down there. Theres a ton of places so I am not real worried about not finding a room.

2nd weekend of the 9th and 10th probably works best. Weather is still generally pretty good . if not there are places inland some that are good rides too.

I live 30 minutes away from Morro Bay- i'll keep that weekend open and can recommend places to eat and roads in the area. It's been a real mild summer - meaning in the coastal areas the marine layer "June Gloom" shas bee around all summer. It's just now starting to stay offshore and getting pleasant in the coastal area's . Hoprfully it continues. If not coming into the North County (inland 20 miles) over the coastal range, the weather has been nice and not the usual 100's that regularly occur - in fact this weekend it's supposed to get to 90 again instead of the 70's we've been having.

Knightstrom, that would be good. I am somewhat familiar with the area. My grandma used to live in Morro Bay and as a kid, I went there alot. However, I am not completely familiar with all the great motorcycle road. The restraunts seem to change a little every time I go there as well. I suppose the flying dutchman and Harbor Hut are still there. My father in law is planning on riding with me, he is on an ST1300. I just need a little getaway right now and Morro Bay is a nice ride.

I'm interested. I'll keep that weekend open. It's a straight shot for me down the 41 to Morro Bay, or... Monkey Man, if you're interested we could meet somewhere along HWY 1 in the Monterey/Carmel area and bomb the coast together to the bay.

I am planning on being in Monterey sometime around 12 to 1:30 (depending on when I leave work or even ahve to go into work at all) or so with lunch in Moss Landing or so ( I was thinking of Phils Fish Market but I am open to suggestions). Maybe you want to meet for lunch and then ride the rest of the way together? My father in law backed out so I will be riding solo, a riding partner would be nice. I sent Knightstom an email on his plans but I believe he is plannig on being there so that makes 3 of us.

I'd meet up and ride; but I'm already booked for that weekend.

I would like to put a camp/ride together for the 49/41/Bass Lake/Sonora Pass.

I want to go before they close the passes. Thoughts on when and how much time to plan for a trip like that? 3 days? 4 days?

Would next weekend be too soon?

It would for me... as I'm already camping this weekend with the wife...

Alright. It's still really hot out there anyway. You guys enjoy the meet and ride and I'll try to catch up with you all on the next one.

The next good weekend I have for the pass is knightstrom's bike work weekend, and then after that the best one would be November 11-14.
I don't want to take away from his shin dig, so November 11-14 maybe?

Does anyone know if the Sonora or the Tioga will be closed by then?

George in Nocal just posted that they closed the passes. He said they would re-open. So, if it's not raining - I'm going to shoot for next weekend. I know I'll miss Knightstrom's tech day. Sorry, but I said I would hit those passes this year. Anyone else want to go; PM me.

I had a fantastic time! Thank you Monkey Man for setting this up and Knightstrom for the guided tour of the local canyons and dirt roads. I really appreciated the chance to round off my tires a bit and just get away from "life" for a bit...
Looking forward to riding with you guys soon...
