Central Coast Ca Tech Day

If I throw it , will they come??
When: Saturday October 16th 0900ish till ?- possible weekend event with responses / local rider assistance. Will firm up as date gets closer. Sunset 6:18. weather - warm days still /cool evenings

Where: in the one light town of Templeton. Calif. (Next to Paso Robles)
Dead center between LA and SF 3.5-4 hrs away, 2 hrs from Fresno/Bakersfield.

Why/What: I’m due for a valve check / adjustment on my DL650. Although I do ok on basic auto repair (exterior engine), I can be one of those people where a little knowledge can be dangerous. As I’ve never dealt with internals, such a valves, cams, cranks and pistons, I would like to have someone to verify things as I go along on my first try. Have shop space, cement pad and carport for 10-15 bikes.

Vee owners are welcome to!!!! Perhaps someone would like to walk others though throttle body synching, and or Map sharing if someone has the equipment to do so.
Homestyle manometer made for synching.

Wanting to add a fusebox, cigar lighter, or other farkles? I can help with that.

Want to change a tire? I will have a Harbor Freight Tire changer available. Have your tires shipped here!

Want to change chain / sprockets? We can do that. Have a chain breaker

Want to customize your seat? Will have power stapler and have some firm foam to use.

DL650 factory service manual on site(book). I have wireless internet available and laptop for additional reference. Working on a Greywolf Strom Signal Light for backup.
Accommodations: Tent Camping available Friday/Saturday night on site. 2 tents are available for use. Recommend Atascadero for Lodging- Motel 6, Super 8, Best Western, Holiday Inn Express are available.
Food: BBQ Lunch. Some beer available too (BYOB as you see fit Ride Safe please. Motel shuttling available).

Depending if all work is completed an late afternoon evening ride is possible. (stay tuned). Followed by an Tri-Tip dinner and Patio Fire in the evening till ?

A Sunday Ride can be scheduled- Possible route would be from Paso Robles through Fort Hunter-Liggitt to The Coast. ( Note the Base requires Valid License, Current Registration, and Current Insurance on your person) Riders can separate North to Carmel or South to Cambria/SLO on Hwy 1 or back to Paso /points East.

I didn't write this guide. It magically appeared. You didn't read it. Knightstrom didn't write it. Knightstrom doesn't endorse it. In fact, YOU wrote it.

If you don't agree that you wrote this guide for your own use, do not follow this guide.

If you agree that you wrote this guide for your own use, and your Strom doesn't work after following this guide, its your fault.

I'm in. Sounds good. I don't think mines due for valve adjustment, but I'll come just to watch and learn. Besides that, you've got some good riding up that way.

This is still a go.. i figure more people will show interest as this gets closer. I did get a dl650 shop manual, a tire changer from Harbor Freight, and ordering a hot cams shim kit as recommended on the Master Valve adjustment thread. If your remotely interested in this event please post as I might order two kits instead of one for others to use.
Your not required to work on your bike, your welcome to just Hangout and tell sea stories, though I may put you to work on the grill.....

I'm hoping what we can get work done by 3 pm and go do a loop route somewhere for those that are interested. I'm up for anything..

Cheers
Steve

I could make if it was the 23rd. I have business in SLO that week. I keep watching the thread for updates. I have an SDC tool and have done a Valve job on my DL650 last winter.

Sorry Chuck D I have other plans the following weekend, I was hoping that those would fall through.

I've picked up a shim kit, feelers, DL650 manual, micrometers, Tire changing equipment, a few other tools. Feel free to bring yours /extras

Wireless is acting up so that may not be available, though hardwire is.

It's only a week away now. Forecast is mid 70's and Sunny.

Location is on Hanging Tree Lane in Templeton

Edit to add 10/9/10 .
I will probably postpone the actual valve check due to the possible length of time it will take 9 though there might have been demand for this. will do rear tire, chain and sprockets instead.
I have a K&N filter cleaner kit available to use
Motorcycle Coolant
Fresh brake fluid and brake bleeder kit ( (have to look up what the clutch fluid is )
C-clamp to press piston those that want to do brakes changes.
A brand new BBQ to grill on ( Happy Birthday to me!)
Gallon of kerosene and rags/ grunge brush for chain cleaning
I did get the stapler with staples and some foam/ carpet padding ( or bring your own to try) for those wanting to do seat mods.
I do have a 3/8 inch torque wrench.
Dupont chain lube
Heck you can wash your bike if you really want to go extreme!!!

**UPDATE WED 10/13/10***
All that's left is for me to buy/prep food, Was hoping for some last minute responses if you think you might come, Pm me for the address.
