Packsaddle Moutain Loop Trail into Chloride, AZ

Today I almost bit off more than I and the V-Strom were ready for. Took the gravel road off of US 93 (about mile marker 52.9) into Chloride, AZ from the back side. I've tried this twice prior this winter and both times was blocked by snow pack. Goal was to see the Roy Purcell painted rock murals and to have a great AZ trail ride. Gravel distance was only about 18 miles.
The first 10 to 12 miles were relatively easy being a well graded gravel road. But near Cherum Peak, the road turned into a true off-road experience. Road/trail was jeep width with numerous off camber sections, several loose, rocky stretches, and deep washed-out ruts. This six to eight mile section took me nearly an hour to slowly accomplish. Even got off the bike once to move some rocks before attempting a section.
The next time I do this road I'll take a lighter off-road bike. Had a feeling of accompishment but also relief after completing the roadway. Celebrated with a Mountain Dew in Chloride.
Anyone else have a similar experience on this road?

Nope, but I've had a similar experience in northeastern Washington in the mountains. Trouble is, once you're committed on a 6-foot narrow road with mile-high dropoffs, there's no turning around, so you suck it up and remind yourself that it sure beats watching TV.

25 miles took me 3 hours. Loved every minute of it.
