Anza Borrego Desert State Park

Friday 11/27 & Saturday 11/28 - 2 of us are heading out of LA to Banning, then south through Idyllwild and Borrego Springs and over to Escondido unless some one has a line on a low /cost place to stay in the vicinity. Right now have reservations in Escondido. Picking up DesertDog around 10am in Idyllwild on Friday...

the Anza-Borrego ride was a success... 2 of us left LA early Friday morning and had breakfast at a Dennys off the I-10 and I-210... we hooked up with desertdog in Idyllwild... from there desertdog took us down and around Borrego Springs... over to the Salton Sea and back through the desert state park... where he pointed us toward Escondido and we said our goodbyes... We stayed in an Econolodge... good price... nothing fancy... great diner/restaurant next door... Saturday we had rain or should I say a deluge of water coming down... and wound up staying in the hotel until noon... ride home was uneventful but dry...

That must have been a great ride!

I flew an Ultralight Trike (looks like a glorified hang glider with a motor on the back) over that area in January of 2005.

We took off from Borrego Springs airport and explored a good amount of the area.. north a bit, east to Borrego Springs, south not too far from Mexico and a bit west. Spectacular countryside! If I recall correctly the road to Borrego Springs from the Salton Sea was nice and twisty (but i was driving a rental Toyota (: ) I recall there were a lot of roads west of Palm Spring as well (we were there training on the New Porsche Boxster so those roads were a lot of fun!)

The story of the Salton Sea is a fascinating one. I am surprised no oine has made a movie out of it.

One day I'll ride down there..
