Sacramento?

Just in case anybody feels more "Sac-ish" and not so much "Tahoe-ish", I`ll try fishing here too! Have seen quite a few members with Sac area bylines under their names, but it looks like there is no home base to check in to. Maybe there is enough demand to support a thread? Anyway, please drop in if you consider yourself to fit the description, and hopefully subscribe to the thread. Could maybe arrange some local mini-rallies or group rides.

Hey, first bit of regional news for you- I heard yesterday that CalTrans was going to open Sonora Pass this weekend. Apparently that was postponed a few days due to chances of snow, but it won`t be long! (Come on, Ebbetts...)

Well, good summer to you all, and hope to eventually hear from some. Rubber side down!

I'm usually up for a ride.

What kind of riding are you up for? I am thinking slab riding since you have a DR? What kind of mileage? What day/days is best for you?

Sounds like you have the DL up and running. Excelent!

Division of Traffic Operations - Road Information - California Highway Information

Your handy link for finding road conditions.
Love Ebbetts! Got friends in Arnold.

Awright! With as little traffic as this subforum seems to get, honestly I didn`t expect any response for a week or two. You guys were on the ball

Very handy link indeed, but I`ll tip you off to the secret hiding place of first hand moto-specific conditions when it comes to California high country:

New version comes out every winter.
Do you get up north often, Notacop? Ebbetts is my personal fav!

Heya, Mike! Yeah, the bike is running like a top although I have not put the plastic and crash bars back on yet. And again, I sure appreciate your offer to help me get it straightened out back when I was floating in limbo. It`s slab that I mostly had in mind when I posted here. I don`t have any plans to ride the Wee on anything wilder than maybe Yankee Jims, but I get do over to Auburn or NVC from time to time on my DR. And from some of the videos I have seen, there are some pretty crazy Strom pilots around though, who seem to be more capable in the rough stuff than I am on my PigDuro, so ya never know!

Sundays and Mondays are my most common ride days. Summer time has been slow for us where I work for the past few years, so I often get an extra furlough day added to my weekends, but it isn`t safe to plan out that extra part more than a few days ahead. You mentioned in the PM that you were about to head out of town. Back from that trip yet? Do you travel often?

I had been going North to visit in Arnold a few times a year. Either to Arnold as a destination or as a crash pad on my way to and from points further North.
Not so much now, gotta mind the wife at home unless the daughter can be with her. That's no certainty.

Problem with any source other than Cal Trans is that it is hearsay. Our local mountain road, Hwy2 was reported to be open by the Wrightwood source. It wasn't until a couple days later.
The ride to the closed gate might be nice but a closed gate still means it's a no go!
Being retired really spoils a body about riding on weekends. During the week, the traffic is so much less. Weekends too much traffic with kids out of school, Mr and Mrs, Mss out making the most of their 2 days off.

Hey I'm relatively close to Sacramento, and much closer to Sonora pass. Sundays are good for me (going to Yosemite with a lady friend tomorrow). Give me a shout sometime!

"Rub it in, retired guy!"

Yeah, but being retired means being older and the being afflicted with the stuff that goes with the age.
Not everyday is another in paradise....but close!

Ebbetts and Sonora are both excellent rides.. been riding them over the years since the late 1970's.. the old RD350 would barely make it over Sonora due to the lack of air, haha. Man that is a great road.

Mind the cows in the high country on Ebbetts Pass. I was in Arnold and noticed the cattle trucks passing through town going east. Next day in the clouds at the top early in the morning I have all these future steaks wandering around on the roadway. Made for very slow going.
Why cattle dudes think feeding the cows in the high country is a good this is beyond me. Probably get free range access.
That would spoil the Natural Nature Camping for me to have cows crapping where I thought I was in the wild. Bad enough just passing through.
