Cali to Utah....but Nevada is the way:>)

Leaving late next month, TN/KY/IN/IL/IA/SD/WY/MT/ID/WA/OR/CA/NV/UT/AZ/NM/TX/OK/AK & back to TN.

I have never ridden the pacific NW, so we are going to drop down from Puyallup on the Pacific coast highway, then cut SE north of San Francisco over to Nevada. I have been researching a decent rout through Nevada to Utah, but I'm not sure which way to go & the choices are kinda limited.

My Dl650 and a KLR650...camping 4-5 nights then grabbing a Motel.

Anyway, here is my tentative route so far, if anyone can give me some "Nay's or Yea's" it would be appreciated:

Personally, I love US50 across Nevada. The geology is interesting (USGS Geology in the Parks) and I love the light and space. Good for my head.

America's "Loneliest Highway." Wonderful. There weren't too many other choices anyway. All the highways in NV are lonely.

But I don't see Colorado on your plan. Have you been here and don't need to see it again? Otherwise, you might not want to miss it while you are out this way. Just sayin'; it's only some of the best riding and scenery in the country!

I love Colorado...used to back pack in the Weminuche Wilderness & Ski Wolf Creek/Purgatory/Steamboat in my younger days. Had many a pint at the Durango Brewery and even stayed in Durango when I rode through last fall. On this trip I am not sure which direction we will go when leaving AZ. My buddy has never ridden out west, nor on this long of a ride, so at that point in the trip plans could change which is why I have not routed anything past Skull Valley AZ. We are going to be out for 3+ weeks.....I'd like to take at least 4....no pressure then.

Last fall I did TN/AR/OK/NM/CO/AZ/NV/AZ/TX/OK/AR/MS/TN in 3 weeks with almost a week of loafing in Skull Valley/Phoenix area. I did not make it into Utah, so That's fixed for this trip

50 is nice, Great scenery. Ely has a nice KOA and the Great Basin Nat Park is worth a gander. They have a cave to visit too. Do mind the speed limit signs in those little towns on 50 or you will get an award and fine. After running 80mph the warnings come up quick, down shifting better happen. They will give you a citation for 26 in the 25 zones.
There is a cheese factory in Beaver Utah if you get through there. There is whole hell of a lot to see in Southern Utah too.
So much to see, so little time. Wah!

That speed control happens in parts of Oregon where 55 is sacrosanct. I've seem Big Rigs pulled over in towns like Austin on 50.
Buddy got a helmet citation for coasting across the street from the hotel to the gas station without his helmet.
There isn't much for revenue out there. The mines are mostly dead and the tourist has the bucks.

I've been through there twice and don't remember seeing much. Can't even remember if the town is there. I do remember being watched close/followed in Tierra Amarilla near Jct. of US64 and US84. I think the guy thought I was speeding, so he whipped around and followed me for a while. (I must have been speeding a little). I could almost feel the "I'm gonna get you and write you up, squid" feeling while being followed.
