Primitive Campsite Suggestions Northern Cali/Southern Oregon

Hey all,

At the end of May I'm riding to Sacramento with my dad, uncle, and a friend of theirs and we're going to camp out on the way down and back. We're looking for suggestions for primitive campsites around the Modoc National Forest/Alturas California off of highway 395.

We don't want to be hours off of the highway, but we don't mind riding 15 minutes or so off of it to get to a cool spot to sleep for the night.

Any suggestions for it would be greatly appreciated! We're hoping to get a handful up and down, so we can have someplace to go depending on how far we make it.

Thanks!

Auto club had campground guides for Nor Cal, So Cal. I have copies of them. You might find sites listed for the various Nat Forests. There is a campground at Burney Falls State Park.
I just googles "campgrounds Nor Cal " and a buncha stuff popped up.

If you don't mind staying on the Oregon side try callin a company called out and about treehouses. they are near cave junction and may have some primitive area of their land they will let you stay on. It is a pretty awesome place. They may have a suggestion if they don't have something. We went horseback riding with them and it is beautiful there.

I'm definitely thinking we'll be through Oregon on the first day of riding or else I would look a little more into it. I've been searching online and looking through the site here Modoc National Forest - Camping & Cabins:Campground Camping and just trying to have some figured out.

Basically we're looking for a place to park our bikes and a flat spot to pitch a tent. An outhouse/vault toilet is a bonus, but from what I can tell is most places there have one at least.

Definitely trying to avoid the typical "campground" if you know what I mean.

An outhouse/vault toilet wouldn't be a primitive campsite would it?

You can camp anywhere on BLM or National Forest land unless it's posted no camping. Check your route on Google Earth and look for likely spots.

Going to have to dig a potty hole though...

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Cor 13:13

Pack it in, pack it out? Oooh, gross, man. Bag 'o shit to go.

I saw a thread on some forum a while back about stealth camping. There was mention of a list of free out of the way places. I forget the particulars but the info is out there. CRS!

Yeah I know that a toilet makes it not so primitive, but that's why I said having that is only a bonus! I've come across a few places on the map but we'll probably just end going a mile or two down a dirt road in the national forest and calling it good.

Ask over in Advrider or Bay Area Riders Forum (BARF). You'll get your answer.

bike X miles=smiles
smiles bike=miles
miles smiles=bike.
It's simple math.

There are TONS of free and primitive camping sites out here. The western states are like a treasure trove of amazing camping.
