July 27th 1000 Miler IBA Las Vegas

I am going to do a 1000 Mile IBA Saddle Sore on July 27th leaving Vegas at 4:00am.
MapQuest Maps - Driving Directions - Map
Meeting place is USA Gasoline @ 8490 Farm Road Las Vegas NV at 3:30-3:45am
Kickstands up and rolling at 4am
A buddy will be there to sign off as your start witness for anyone wanting such.
SaddleSore 1000/Bun Burner 1500 Rules
Route will take us from Vegas to Tonopah, then to Ely, continue on to Wendover, across the Salt Flats towards Salt Lake City, then head South to Vegas ending at the Iron Skillet by the Race Track.
Start to stop shows at 1012 miles.
This ride you are pretty much on your own as far as mechanical, so please make sure your in good mechanical condition.
We do not want to impair someone from achieving their goal if your bike has mechanical issues.
Their are several ways to drop out and return to Vegas or get a room if needed.
It looks like the farthest we would have to stretch fuel is 170 miles from Tonopah to Ely.
Stops will be very limited to save time at the end.
Please carry energy bars and a camelback to speed up stops by snacking and drinking on the road.
Anyone interested?
Mike

I'd qualify for the 1500 if I do my start in Pasadena. It's a good route, all those roads are posted 75 mph or so and the defacto speed limit is WFO. You could be done in 15-16 hours.
Lots of open desert so wild life may not be a problem, not the the occasional burro or antelope hasn't been seen before.
Y'all enjoy yourselves.

I chose this day because of it nearing the Full Moon for the Dark portion.
Hope it helps to spot wildlife.

Mike, one thing about that kind of riding is that you don't wait for someone who fiddle farts at stops. You don't have time for it. I would gas sitting on the bike and be off asap. I'd grab a towel from the windshield unit and do a quick visor wipe to clear the bugs.
The stop and eat and talk about it doesn't get anything done.

I did that stretch from Tonopah to Ely when I went to Goldpoint this spring. You are correct, it's about 170 miles between fuel-up spots. At least it won't be dark when you go through there. Have a great trip!

I need to look into the National Parks/Monuments thing. I was talking to a guy a few weekends ago that did it.

Good excuse to get on the bike and visit A LOT of awesome places!

Have fun on your ride Mike! I'd be up for it if it wasn't the weekend after the Western V-Strom meet in Ventura. Are you going to that?

Oh, man, that sounds like a good deal, I can't get a hall pass for a long time out of the confines. Make sure you have a Old Fart Card first or it will cost an arm and leg to do the parks!

If I do it I'll get the annual pass that gets into all of them.

The fun begins at age 62 when you qualify for the Multi Agency Pass/Golden age Pass.
$10 and you are good for 1/2 price camping at Forest Service and Nat parks and Mons.
5 of us just camped at a Forest Service camp ground on the lower Kern River for $10 bucks.
I'm old and ugly but a money saver to my young riding friends!
