Chain length

I replaced my chain on my 08 wee last year and I can't remember how many links I ordered. The problem is my chain is a little too tight even when the wheel is all the way forward..How do I count my links and what does factory recomend?
Thanks!

Everyones normal till you get to know them:mod_lol:

Jack up back tire. Mark a link with twist tie or black marker. Count the links (a link has two pins connected by a side plate [link]) Should be as Mud Puddle says unless you have a modified counter sprocket or rear sprocket. You can count the teeth on the sprockets then, if your link count is correct for your year.

'07 and later 650s have a 15mm longer swingarm to make room for an ABS hydraulic unit behind the rear shock. The space and mounting holes are there whether the bike has ABS or not.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s
