Valvoline 4-stroke Motorcycle oil

Hello
I have a new 2011 Wee and plan on changing oil at 100,250, and 500 miles for the first part of the break in period. I was at Walmart and noticed they have Valvoline 4 Stroke 10W40 motorcycle oil at about 4 bucks a quart. I looked it up on the web and it looks like a fairly good product.I was wondering if this would be adequate for the first few oil changes.
Thanks - Randerson

Hello Randerson, and welcome to the forum!

There have been MANY questions about motor oils and what opinions riders have about them in this forum. So many, that the moderators created a separate thread for people to add their opinions to, and for riders to research answers to their questions.

Here is the link: https://www.stromtrooper.com/maintena...il-thread.html

Congratulations on your new bike!!!

We could turn this into a break-in thread, which as we all know would be much less contentious.

Congrats on your new bike.

Congrats on the new bike...For your break in purposes what you propose will do fine. Any oil that has the same specs as the owners manual will do the job. I doubt most owners change the oil at 100 and 250 but if it makes you feel better go for it.

Welcome to the madness.............

I would change the filter before I changed the oil at 100 and 250 miles......the oil has not probably broken down at all by then, but the filter would catch any shavings in there floating around (which is the whole reason to change that often, I assume??). If I change my oil at low milage intervals (I use synthetics), I usually keep it to use in the mower, tiller, chainsaw, etc.

Just my $0.02........

Valvoline

I've been using it since I purchased my vstrom new in 09, it's got 7k on it now. Btw advance auto parts also carries it. Don't forget to pick up dupont chain lube available at lowes.

'07 DL650 - I use Shell Rotella 5W40 Synthetic. Originally designed for turbocharged diesel engines, but I know lot's of riders who use it in their motorcycles without any known problems. It's about the same price as the one you mentioned. I am a big proponent of synthetic oils.

The Valvoline oil should do fine...for the first one or two hundred thousand miles. There is no secret to blending good oil. The only challenge is marketing it in enough volume to justify continued production.

"Older people who are reasonable, good-tempered, and gracious will bear aging well. Those who are mean-spirited and irritable will be unhappy at every period of their lives.

"Let each of use properly whatever strengths he has and strive to use them well. If he does this, he will never find himself lacking."

If you have a Tractor Supply store in your area they often carry Valvoline ATV oil for about a dollar cheaper. It is the same oil and I had no problems.
