Any heavy duty throttle cables out there???

I've already gone thru 2 Wee Strom OEM throttle cables in 30,000 kms. I couldnt believe how thin they were, like a few strands of fine hair (exaggerating only a little).

Does anyone know of any aftermarket makers of real heavy duty cables for a 2009 DL650A. I'll start with throttle and clutch but if the OEM cables are all this bad i'll change every cable out on the bike with good thick stuff.

Thanks

That is very odd. Are you greasing the barrel ends as recommended? Is the routing correct. Do not force lubricant through the sheaths. I don't think I've heard any reports of a broken throttle cable before.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.

My first throttle cable actually did snap right off near the hand grip at about 8000 kms. (I cant remember if it was the push or pull cable). When i first got the bike this year I got the dealer to install electric grips, handguards, kaoko throttle lock etc so maybe after they installed those they might have done something to the throttle cable that it eventually snapped at 8000.

The replacement cable hasnt actually snapped yet however at the time of my 24000 km service another dealer said the throttle cable ( he didnt say whether it was the push or pull cable) was already "stretched to its maximum" and it would have to be replaced "soon". I imagine on some of the preceding servicing by this other dealer he tightened the throttle cable on his own without informing me, although i never noticed any throttle problems before taking it in for servicing at any of the service intervals and never mentioned that the cable needed tightening.

Unfortunately i was also assuming this other dealer was properly lubing all cables including the throttle ones etc. when in for these services.

I guess I'll have to start doing more servicing myself from now on rather than relying on others.

That stretched cable is really an improperly adjusted one. The broken one must have been due to improper service. Properly serviced cables are not a problem.

Agreed -- properly installed and adjusted throttle cables pretty much last a lifetime.

I broke a throttle cable on my other bike at about 10K miles. Bought 2 new ones, installed one, put the other under the seat for the next 50K miles. It's still there.
