Interesting - ECM warranty replacement on a 2006 DL1000

Howdy all,

I took my bike back to my dealer last Thursday - I wanted them to see/feel the surging I have between 3000-3800 rpms (I was hoping this was cured in the K6's, but I guess not in all).

The dealer has a mechanic that rides a K5 1000, he took mine for a ride and came back with the "Yup - same problem mine had..." - Soooooo... I get a call today, Suzuki has OK'd a ECM replacement for my bike. It should be here tomorrow, and I can get it installed anytime I bring the bike in.

The funny part is the service manager says, "it might not fix ALL the problems, but it will fix most of them" (why does that not make me feel so happy?)

I'll keep you all posted on what it does/doesn't do - I'm very surpised they didn't even try a TBS, but I'm going to ask them to do one when it's in for the replacement.

Take care,
Bob S.

I could have done the ECM replacement... But the yosh fix seemed o fix most of it. Some people got a new ECM which ran as bad as the old one or the old Yosh ECM ran better..... Sooooo I did not waste my time ... Just added the +2 at idle with the Yosh box and am good to go. LOL but am still wondering if the 06 ECM would work better/different.

Solution get a second bike with different issues. So when you get tired of the issues this bike has .. Switch .. AHhhhhhh perfect ... then the other bike's issues start to get to you... then switch back.. AHhhhhh perfect... Then ...... round and round

Thank God the issues are so small they are not really worth bitching about.

Spent 6 hrs with my Le Mans yesterday... Ran perfect ... except the wind howl in my helmet. (even with ear plugs) on the way home in the head wind. ... Then spent 5 hrs on the Vee. No wind howl and it's sooo comfortable!.. but that damn 1st to 2nd gear BS. Then the fairing being 2" to short...

But the surroundings were so beautiful and the feeling of being on the bike after the non stop rain... Who really gave a damn.

I could have been on the custom HD with the FAT HUGE monster rear tire (looked like Big Bear "300 pro sled", or a Swift "Icon") which was sitting by the side of the road. .. dead.

I missed being able to stop as I saw him as I was passing 2 semi's. Bet his day was not a good as mine with his $30K+ custom bike sitting dead by the side of the road in a no cell phone reception area. But being on the Vee I did not have my tools anyway....

Let us know how the new ECM works for you... Also the process nd part numbers (TSB#???) I still may have some time left to do it.

Redbeard,

When I rode my new 2004 DL1000 home from the dealer, it was a very unpleasant 12-mile ride. All the bucking & popping back though the intake, I knew I didnt want this bike. It ran like SH**! When I got home I gave the dealer a call; No problem bring it in & well fix it they said. Next day the service department adjusted the TPS & did a TB sync. I rode it home after their adjustments & was pleased with the results. The surging & bucking at 3000-3500 RPM. was eliminated. Many happy miles logged on the Strom until the ambient temperature was above 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Now there is a problem with the engine stalling when rolling to up to stop lights. So I called the service dept. & told them about this. No problem they said, bring it in & well adjust the TPS. Well at that point I said okay no problem, hung up the phone then call Suzuki customer assistance line. I stated my case & requested a new ECU. After many phone calls to the dealer & customer assistance I finely got the new updated ECU installed. How does it run now? Much better, not perfect, but performs like it should have out of the box. There is a very slight lean surge at 2000 RPM, but the overall engine performance meets my expectations. I have owned many Suzuki motorcycles & have been very happy with the quality of all of them. My DL1000 required a bit of hassle to get it to the level of quality I expected from Suzuki. I hope the new ECU will meet your expectations.

Please post the results.

Thank you.
