Wee won't start ??? CHEC light on, any ideas

Any Ideas??

Bike won't start. Check light comes on. Bike is in neutral with the kickstand up. I've checked all the fuses and connections that I can think of, even the connection on the clutch side handlebar ( had that come off once, took me two days to find it!). I hear the relay click when I flip the start switch to run but I do not hear the whine of whatever whines when you flip the switch ( what is that whine anyway??). All the lights come on, the bike will turn over just won't start..???

Check the kill switch.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.

You'v probably checked these, but:

Battery have charge?

Are the battery cables properly hooked up?

Have you had the gas tank off? Check the plug under there.

Check the kill switch. ( greywolf )

Greywolf, in what way do you mean to check the kill switch? When I flip it to run, I hear the fuel pump relay click on and off like it should. Don't hear the fuel pump charge (whine) like it should. Would the kill switch let the relay work but keep the fuel pump from running?

V-Tom,

Battery charged? well...kind of.. Its the original battery, 5 yrs old. I charged it the night before, but it gave out within a couple of minutes of trying to start. I've yanked it out and going to replace it tomorrow.
Not sure if that will be the solution because it had enough juice to turn the starter!??

Thanks for the suggestions, got anymore????

wee won't start - chec light on - any ideas??

OK changed out battery. Same thing, fuel pump relay clicks on and off, fuel pump does not charge (whine), engine turns over but will not start.

The CHEC light is on now, might have been before?? Changed ignition fuse, checked connections, nothing worked..!!??

The CHEC means check the kill switch, the sidestand switch or there is a poor connection between the ECU and the instrument cluster.

At least on my '08, the engine would not turn over if that were off.

Just a data point: on mine, with ignition key on and bike in neutral, CHEC is on. Flip kill switch to on, and CHEC remains on during the fuel pump charge and then goes off.

Have you looked in the tank to see if there's a connection loose on the pump itself? That's the next thing I'd do, after double checking whatever fuse protects the fuel pump.
