Valve Check Measurements

For the DL650, the manual states....

Valve clearance (when cold)
IN. : (0.004 - 0.008 in)
EX. : (0.008 - 0.012 in)

When I checked the valves at 15k I got.....

0.005 on two of the IN's and 0.006 on the other two
0.009 on all four of the EX's.

Since those were on the tight side, I decided to check them again in about 5k miles. Well, I am about to do another big Adventure Ride and the bike is sitting at 22k miles and I decided to check them again.

The measurements were identical to the readings I took at 15k. Everything is within Spec, so I am inclined to ride the bike the rest of the season and maybe in the Spring of 2010 when I probably have close to 30k on the bike, check them again and go ahead and make the adjustments to probably.....

IN 0.007
EX 0.010

What do you think of my plan here and am I being too risky?

Big John

Chances are you are okay. I had one exhaust valve tighten up less than .001 from 17,000 miles to 40,000 miles. All the other clearances stayed in the same range. Go for your ride and check again at 30,000 miles or so. You can see from the poll at https://www.stromtrooper.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=43389 that clearances don't do much changing after the initial check.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s
See https://www.stromtrooper.com/general-...nicknames.html

Please vote in the poll on what Strom(s) you have at https://www.stromtrooper.com/informat...-you-have.html

Thanks for your thoughts.

An hour to take it all apart.....now an hour to put it all back together.....

At least the air filter will be cleaned out and I will have BIG peace of mind!
