Speed Sensor rotor stripped

I am changing the chain and sprockets on my 2012 strom 650. When I got to the speed sensor rotor it looks like the bolt has been stripped. Any recommendations for getting this off.

Also does that look like 17,000 miles of wear?

The last time this was changed it was by a shop that is no longer in business. I wonder if they never got it off and there is actually 40,00of wear on it..

I was looking at a parts listing, https://www.cheapcycleparts.com/oemp...d/transmission, for the front sprocket area with speedo sensor to match the pix for your model, (L2 Glee), but I don't seem to locate the correct info. I even had a look at the info for the L3, (https://www.cheapcycleparts.com/oemp...5/transmission), just in case but the diagram looks the same. However, looking the pix that you posted, I was thinking that if a vise-grip or similar tool to clamp hold of the speedo sensor rotor, thus allowing it to be pulled while trying to turn / screw it loose?

Gert, that rotor pic and info is located under the heading "Speedometer" in the MR Cycle microfiche. It looks like someone possibly tried using a US Allen wrench or socket in a metric bolt. Or they used an Allen socket and an air impact wrench and didnt know when to stop.
Cornwell tools, as do many other tool suppliers, offer a set of short reverse spiral-thread extractors. I use mine all the time to remove broken bolts, brass fittings, etc. A set might be useful to remove the bolt.
Ive also used a hammer and small chisel to try to spin an Allen bolt out, progressed to an air-hammer and chisel bit under low air pressure, and have had to drill the head of the bolt off to remove parts.

Do those special extractors require any hammering to get set? It does not seem like a part of the bike I want to hit with a hammer.

Yes, you just tap them in- not try to drive the crankshaft out of the other side of the engine. Once the spiral threads bite, the bit will pull itself into the bottom of what was the bottom of the Allen bolt's hex head bore.

Ok this might be a dumb question but what is the difference between SPEEDOMETER (DL650AL2 E33) and SPEEDOMETER (DL650AL2 E28)? What do the 28 and 33 indicate?

Thanks for help I would never have looked under speedometer.

E28 and E33 refer to Country or Origin.
28=Canada
33=California
03=USA except for California
