Boosting a dead battery

I left my dl650 ignition switch in the accessory position all day and had a dead battery. Somebody gave me a boost from a car battery (not in a car) and I was good to go.
Is it safe to boost the battery this way? The guy at the Suzuki dealer service counter said on the phone that boosting from anything except "..maybe a very small car battery .." could destroy the whole electrical system. This obviously is not true, but I have heard persistent stories about the dangers of boosting a dead motorcycle battery.
Any expert opinion out there would be welcome.

I am far from an expert, but have experience with boosting a motorcycle battery off of a car battery. As my friends and I will attest, there should be no risk "frying" your electronics as long as the car battery is not in a vehicle or if it is, make sure the car is NOT RUNNING. Any juice being put out by a vehicles altenator is what will "fry" your electronics, not the battery itself.

Hope this helps

Oh ya, I agree with that. Never boost from a running car. Modern cages have very good high capacity charging systems, far more powerful than most bike systems. If a running cage senses a dead battery on booster cables it will automatically charge as much as possible and probably cook a battery and assorted items. If possible get boosted from another bike.
