DL1000 handguards

I have an '06 Vee. The previous owner had dropped it at one time and broke the plastic handguard on the right side. He repaired it with glue and lacing wire, actually a rather neat repair. I ordered a replacement handguard through the local dealer. The one that came in is different than mine. Mine wraps around the end of the bar and is sandwiched between two sections of the bar end. The replacement doesn't have the wrap-around piece, and just attaches to the brake lever mount. The dealer swears this is the official replacement part and all he can get. Is this true?

I returned it to the dealer. I would sure like to get a replacement at some point. I wouldn't mind going with an aftermarket set if I knew they would fit. I have been looking at Acerbis and Cycra. Any suggestions?

Your dealer is full of madura. I ordered a replacement a couple of months ago and it was exactly like the original one. Go to Bike Bandit and get it from them.

If you go aftermarket, beware. Search the threads for info on having to cut your levers off short etc.

Go hakafugu yourself.

You got the version for the older 1liter bike. The newer ones have the 'wraparound'...

Dealer is wrong.

Search the parts fiche online at someplace like Oneida Suzuki, get the correct part number and have your dealer order it.

Or go with the aftermarkets. If you do, let me know how it works out. I have a cracked old-style on the LH/clutch side...

L2V -- she's a stocker!...and gone...

I mentioned to the parts guy that I thought the one he ordered was for the older 1Ks, '02 and '03 or so. He looked down his nose at me like it was beneath his dignity to even deal with such audacious ignorance. At that point I asked for my money back.

Thanks, guys. Just ordered one from Oneida Suzuki. At some point I would like to try a stronger aftermarket version. That can wait. The stockers will do for now.
