Clutch pull

My 05' DK1000 has a clutch pull like an 80's Harley.. I have a very good grip (snickersnicker) but the clutch pull is a bitch.. Is this normal??

Any suggestions, other than the smart one of taking it to a dealer?

I think I need to squeeze another bike's clutch to see if my bike is the issue. (That sounds so gross :shock: )


I've been riding for 25 years, and have owned over 20 different motorcycles and this is the most difficult clutch I've ever pulled. I've owned other juice clutches also, and they're never this stiff..

Time to investigate.. :?

I don't notice a problem with clutch pull unless I ride around town when shifting often. I REALLY notice it after riding my Honda Nighthawk; it has a very light pull on the lever.I know this is trivial nit-picking, but the suzuki brochure claims a light pull on the clutch lever, but like the windshield buffeting issue, it's all very subjective.

For a hydraulic clutch, it is a strong pull.

I agree with Paper, it is a heavy pull. I've heard of others moving the entire unit to the right, or towards center, approx 1.5 inches, and this may help some, but I have no experience in it. I've just tried to learn to live with it

Well, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only wimp (at 6' tall and 230#).. :lol:

My KLR had a crappy clutch pull, but that's because of the way it's routed (cable) and the fact that the prior owner didn't know that you COULD lube cables.. :shock:

My local jerk (AKA-Dealer) has a new 04 DL1000 on the floor. I'll have to grab a handful of that badboy and see if it's comparable.. (I'm starting to make myself sick :lol

My 650 is a little stiffer than I would have thought. Certainly acceptable, but heavier than I was expecting for a 650 twin.

Tangential, but wee-strom owners might want to be sure that the inner locknut on the lower clutch cable adjuster is tight. Symptom - the adjuster barrel on the lower side is wobbly where it emerges from the engine - it should be tight. Mine was loose at delivery with no clutch free play - I had to take off the countershaft cover and tighten the inner nut, adjusting it in the process to get proper freeplay (which can be fine-tuned at the lever).

Clutch Pull

I also agree that the clutch pull effort is excessive. Get caught in bumper to bumper traffic such as during Daytona Bike Week and you will know what I am talking about!

My question is does anyone know if a tapered clutch lever is available for the VStrom 1000?

What other Suzuki clutch lever is compatble with V Strom hydraulic clutch system?

I think if the lever was more tapered, it would be easier to pull since you may have greater leverage.

well guys, i have a 1980 hd wide glide with a 93" motor. i upgraded the clutch springs also, now that is a hard pull! so to me the hyd. clutch on the v isnt bad, but what do i know!!! becman
