Spark plug alternative?

I am replacing my spark plugs as part of my annual maintenance. The plugs that were in are Denso Iridium IU24D. I checked with all my local auto parts places and on one had them. One place offered me E3.38 plugs, which they said were compatible with my bike.

With the weather turning this week and the salt recently washed off the roads, I'm jonesing to get finish my to-do list and get the bike out. Can I use the alternative plugs, or should I order and wait for the Iridiums?

NGK is the stock brand. CR8EIA-9. Bike Bandit and similar online parts vendors have them cheap, $6-7 range.
My local dealer matched online price, might as well ask.

I would only go with iridium's.....they last forever. Check Amazon too, that's where I got mine.

Changed my NGK Iridium plugs after 60000km.
The ground electrode was eaten up a bit.

Question Do they really need to be changed

I think unless you ride a lot of miles during the season that the plugs require changing every year. I haven't checked the service interval Suzuki recommends but I betting it's in the 10's of thousands of miles.

I think a 40K change interval is a safe bet.

Which means for most folks is that they never need to change them. I had the stock plugs and only changed them during a valve check because I had a couple new ones.
The old ones looked good and I think they are still under the seat as spares.
Maybe in a race motor where stresses are higher plugs would wear. In a stock 650, i don't think so much.

The book is still stuck on a 7500 mi interval. I'm not sure if it is an oversight or they are allowing for someone running 9000 rpm all day long. I suppose that would wear out spark plugs pretty quick. IIRC each plug fires 50 times per second at 3000 rpm. Stuff happens fast inside an engine.

I ended up ordering the NGK's via Amazon and installed them the other day.

As for the ones that were in there, the rear showed a fair amount of wear, with what appeared to be a bit of carbon fouling. The front look exactly as it should.

My bike just turned 30K miles and the former owner's maintenance records don't show the last time they were changed (though I suspect they were when the valve check was done at 18K). For the nominal cost and the 20 minutes of work -- I already had the tank off for another project -- it was worth it to me.

The cheapest price I found doing a Google search was Dennis Kirk. The fitment guide for that plug only shows it for use with 2013-2019 DL650 and SFV650s.

Does anyone know what the proper plug is for 1st Gen DL1000?

OH BTW the price @ Dennis Kirk was $7.58 and am not sure if there is shipping on top of that but wouldn't be surprised.
