ABS question

Hi all,
Hope your holidaze are going well,

I have a 2011 DL650ABS Strom and I need to replace my rear wheel ABS sensor. My question is, where is the connector? The dealer thinks I'll need to remove the gas tank to get at the connector, does anyone know if that's true? Any and all info is greatly appreciated.

I think that is correct. I just checked on my Gen2 L4 650 and the ABS sensor wire runs up the swing arm on the right hand side of the bike and connects to a bundle of wires below the radiator overflow tank. Not really enough room to get to it without getting other stuff out of the way first. It looks like you'd need to remove the gas tank and the overflow tank and bracket. I'm pretty sure its the same on the Gen1 Wee.

That said, what makes them think the ABS sensor is bad? What are the symptoms? It is fairly unusual for that part to fail but it does happen. Ask them what happens when they replace it and it doesn't fix the problem.

Hey dmfdmf, the shop hooked up my bike to their "Suzuki" computer thing and it spit out codes for defective ABS controller and rear wheel sensor. He then cleared the codes and took the bike for a ride. He confirmed the ABS is not working. Then he hooked it backed up to the diagnostic box again and the only code that came up was for the wheel sensor.
He thinks the first time when he got the code for the controller it was because of the bad wheel sensor. He says when he gets the sensor he'll hook it up to see if the codes clear.
I hope its not the controller, its crazy expensive. I told him to first check all the connectors to make sure they're clean and tight....To be continued

The only issues I remember reading about im the last 5 years have been sensors misspositioned or damaged during tire replacement.
