I was recently doing the same thing.
Contact Blair @ svracingparts. He will set you up and ship quickly.

Yeah man, I sweatin' it already. The only think I'm afraid of, other than getting the chain back together, is getting the wheel all out of line. People tell me it's simple, but that has been the death nell in the past.

Best wishes! I'm a bunch of thousands of miles from having to do that, but eventually I'll be in the same spot you're in.

how many miles for chain replacement

How many miles are folks getting on the stock chain and sprokets? Do you replace the chain and sprokets always at the same time?

I just posted in another thread about this, but I currently have 16k miles on all my stock stuff. I am not sure when I will change it, but was hoping to get 20k.

Honestly, my sprockets are in phenomenal shape. I have to give Dupont credit for this!!!! When I need a chain, I plan to just go with a chain and use the sprockets for a while longer.

I changed my chain and front sprocket on Friday at about 20900 miles - but I should have done the chain sooner. Unfortunately I got sent the wrong rear sprocket - but I emailed Blair, he called me at home about an hour later, and the new sprocket should be almost here. As usual, great service from Blair.

After reading horror stories about pins on chain tools breaking and the need to grind off the head of the rivet before trying to break it I was somewhat apprehensive about the process.

But the RK tool that I bought from Blair was perfect. I broke the old chain and the new one twice (was being overly cautious about not cutting it too small) without grinding anything and with no issues whatsoever. It also made splaying the rivets easy.

It is an expensive tool (to me) at $100 but I figure if I use it twice it's more than payed for itself. If my son keeps piling up the miles on his R6 I think I'll get a chance to use it again relatively soon. And the quality of the tool makes it look like it should last as long as both my son and I ride bikes.

You do get what you pay for and while there are cheaper alternatives out there to this noob this tool was exactly what I needed. It allowed me to do the job quickly, easily, and most important, properly.
