Shinko 705

I read a post about these tires a month ago or so and I was wondering if anyone has tried them and ridden enough miles to decide if they are any good. Anyone?

P.S. I am not starting a tire thread I was wondering about this specific tire so hold your fire.

They are not even available in Strom sizes yet.

I'm supposed to have them in stock by the end of June. There is more info at the VSRI site under vendor sales. I can't post a link or this post will go bye bye.

Actually, these appear to be available on the motorcycle Superstore website now. Shinko 705.

110/80Q-19-TL - SKU# 195734 - $55.99 (Actually listed in the same drop down as the rear)
150/70Q-17-TL - SKU# 195731 - $71.99

71.99 + 55.99 = $127.98. This qualifies for free shipping so that is is $127.98 to my door! This is even cheaper then we thought! It would probably be worth it to order 2 rears and 1 front all at the same time and you would still be under $200.

If the rear gets me 6k-8k miles and decent grip in the wet and gravel, I will be more then pleased. That's less then half the cost of Anakee's ($266) or Tourances ($290) shipped from the same place.

Okay, I just went ahead and ordered 1 front and 2 rears. For that price, its worth it. My total with those 3 tires was $199.97. $.03 shy of $200. I went ahead and added a $1.99 Replacement Drink Valve for JP3 Suit - SKU# 184751. This put me over $200 and then I was able to use Coupon Code - C509CPNPAGE20 for $20 off $200 or more.

My shipped total was $181.96 for 3 tires!

There is a $5 coupon code off $100 if you just order two tires. - C509CPNPAGE5

[Edit] I just brought my order up to verify and the 3 tires say "On Order" vs "In Stock". Hmm, I might have to call them and see whats up with that? Their web page says in stock for these tires. It did have a delivery date of May 21st when I first checked out. I'll update this as I find out more.

[Edit2]Okay, I just called and the CSR said tires show up as "On Order" when they come from one of their warehouses and since UPS classifies them as "oversize" they have to go by truck which takes a bit longer. We'll see how soon I get them. Crossing my fingers for the best. Man less then $200 for 3 tires which theoretically should last me about 12k+ miles between all 3 is hard to beat. Will see if these are any more off road capable then the Tourance/Anakee setup and how they handle rain, gravel, and of course dry.

I'll be leaving for a trip on my Vstrom at the end of June. I'll spoon these on at the beginning of June and give an update then.

Note

The 705's are bias ply tires, not radials, which typically last longer.

According to my distributor the 705's won't be state-side until mid to end of June. Can you say 'back-ordered?'

BlueLightening is right. I got an email from MotorcycleSuperstore when the came available last week.

BlueLightening: I ordered a tire from them and it took 8 days to get to my house. I also called about the free 2-3 day shipping and got the same spiel about the oversized item. Hopefully you get them sooner than I did. I think they are located in Oregon, so depending on where you are they might get there sooner. I am in Virginia, almost as far from Oregon and still in the ConUS as you can get. Hope you get em soon, I cant wait to hear how they hold up.

Shut out what they say, they're too dumb too mean it anyway.

That would be pretty crappy of MSS if they list them as available on their site, but they aren't yet. We'll see.

I'm in GA, so not much closer. I think I saw a delivery date of May 21-22 when I ordered them, so we'll see when that gets here or if I hear something before then.

Rubber would be the last place I'd be looking to save some money. When someone gets these mounted I'd like to hear how they corner, I'm guessing they will be hard and slick.
