650 : rear brake makes audible click when easing off.

(2004, dl650)

After getting everything ready to rock this spring, I noticed an oddity.

I am getting a single audible click/pop sound frequently when I ease off the rear brake, particularly at low speeds. Weirdly, it seems to be coming from the left side of the bike, but I haven't been out enough this year to clearly determine if this is the case. Brake feels plenty strong, bike is otherwise well maintained. Is this just something being cranky/sticky?

Side note : after 5 hard Illinois winters, the stock battery finally gave up the ghost this year. It lived through about 3 starts after battery-tending, but alas, I was forced to pop in a new one.

Side side note : dang it's cold this spring

A click involving the rear brake usually means the caliper carrier is not properly keyed to the swingarm. The swingarm has a rectangular block welded on it that fits into a keyway on the caliper carrier. If the carrier is just sitting above it instead keyed into it the carrier is free to rotate around the axle and will click against the block.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s
