I discovered that when I replaced my air filter that I did not include the O ring from the old filter. The first time I removed the entire fairing https://www.stromtrooper.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2590
. This time I chose to just remove some fairing bolts to remove the gas tank . It was about 20 minuets faster than the first time but when it came to reinstalling the tank it was impossible for ME ( I am not a mechanic) to spread the fairing apart while trying to reposition the tank. I had to have another set of hands to hold the fairing apart while I set the tank in place. IMHO it would seem that removing the fairing would make it simpler to remove and reinstalled the tank without help.
Let me also state that I am not a mechanic and only present this info as an example of how I did it.
The instructions for removing the fairing bolts are
1. the black (mine is silver) L shaped piece on both sides ( #3)
2. the small plastic piece at the front of the tank.
3. 3 Allen screws on each side. (# 1,2,4)
After tank removed
Tank proped up , veiw of two of three tank connectors to remove. Make sure to place a rag under the fuel feed hose (black connector) to catch any gas that will leak out.

After tank connecter are removed , then remove the fuel tank mounting bolt
At this point you should be able to remove the tank.
After tank removed , air box exposed
Remove the air box cover and remove the old air filter. Make sure if you reinstall a new air filter that you remove the O ring from the old one and install it on the new one.
O ring removed from old filter.
Also check the air box drain plug for water.
Reconnect all the parts.
Hope this is helpful.
