NEW DL650 FI problems??? help

I picked up my new 05 DL650 on Wed. nite. First time I went to start it was Thurs. afternoon. The bike had 3 miles on it from the dealer prep. Key on, waited for pump to be up to pressure then hit the button. It started and hunted up and down from 800 rpm to 2K. One cyl would drop in and out too. I turned it off and call the dealer. I was PI88ED! The picked it up...played around with it. They changed the plug and told me it was fine. I picked it up at the dealer, the bike now had 10 miles on it from their test rides. Today, this Sunday, was my first ride out. It started fine, but still is occasionally rough on idle. I've been careful to work it through the gears and load and unload the engine. I have 40 miles on it now. Symptoms: idle is still a bit rough with occasional popping and slight RPM wandering. 1500 to 2500 rpm there is some popping during take offs. The only way to avoid this is to run 2500rpm and slip the clutch. Under acceleration at varying rpms and throttle positions, I get some popping (missing it seems). This CAN'T be normal...... What should I do???? I'm really dissappointed on how it runs. I expect a smooth even idle and seemless acceleration...Is that too much to ask????/ help.....

I think I'd be taking it back to the dealer again. Tell them your symptoms and ask them to fix it. It's not normal so they should be able to take care of it for you. If not....find another dealer.

Sounds exactly like what my 650 did when it was new. The dealer replaced the plug caps and all was better. I think Suzuki got a bad bad batch of caps.

650...Anything more than a handfull is wasted

Bought an 05 K5 DL 650. The thing wouldn't idle. 800 to 2K rpm with 1 cylinder intermittent. I took the bike back to the dealer at 3 miles (their set-up miles), I never rode it. The dealer changed a spark plug, that's all they said. Idle seemed better. Sunday, first ride. 42 miles. Idle good, after I bumped it up from 1100 to 1300rpm. To start off you need to rev to ~2500 for a smooth take off. anything less, it bucks and coughs. Symptom 2: when rolling on the throttle is anygear from 2000 rpm, she coughs until above 3.5K or so. 1/8 to 11/4 throttle positions seem to cause the coughing. I've had at least 75 different bikes from 1950 to present. all but 1 carb'ed. My 92 Ducati 907 (injected) was smooth....never a hitch. I had a first year SV650S that I bought in Canada (carbs), smooth as silk, no issues. I do know what I'm experiencing here.....and I do know that I have a 650, not a 1000

Peace through ignorance!

I'm not saying that you are imagining the issues with the FI and your DL650. I was pointing out that the DL650 model does not have a known issue with the FI system that Suzuki needs to address. If the bike is not set up properly it could have a problem. Also, these are mechanical things and sometimes their is an issue with a part being bad. Take it to the dealer and have them fix it. If they won't, find a new dealer.

Two things you should think about
1) What octane is in the tank...the Suzuki 650 motor doesn't like the higher octanes (DL650 or SV650).

2) Don't wait for the fuel pump to finish "pressurizing" the lines. As soon as you hear the pump kick in, hit the button. SWMBOs SV650 would backfire and run like Sh1t if she waited 'til the pump finished pumping.

Just another geek with a bike. 8-p~

My bike displayed symptoms like this when new also. Dealer claimed it was a bad coil, which as I understand it is integral with the plug cap. They replaced it, problem resolved. It varied from not all that noticable to clearly missing on one cylinder so it is possible it ran okay for them for a short time.
I'd ask the dealer to dig a little deeper, theres nothing normal about what you're experiencing..

Only time my strom has done something similar, popping, rough idle, was when I synced it and was turning the sync screw waaaay in the wrong direction before figuring out the right direction to balance it out.

WHAT JOE SAID! THEY NEED TO PULL THE COVERS ETC AND FIX IT.

If evolution is valid, why do I still bite my tongue occasionally?

I talked to the service dept today. They have a new front cyl. plug cap/coil on order. Suz. pointed them to the cap/coil. We'll see...I hope it works. The part will be in by Monday.. The only problem is no Vstrom this weekend!

Peace through ignorance!
