oil question

A question for the oil experts: Can you mix different viscosities of oil together?

The other day I was changing the oil in my DRZ400s. My first added quart was 20-50 non-sinth. Then I realized that it took 10-40w. So I switched to the 10-40 non-sinth for the rest of the refill. Will the two grades mix, or will they layer due to the different weights? Itís not a big deal to drain and refill again, but I donít like to waste the oil. Any help would be appreciated. Doug.
