An X ring is preferred. Visualize |x| or |o| as a piece of synthetic rubber cross section between two surfaces and squeeeze the vertical surfaces to meet the rubber. The x has two sealing rings on each side where the x meets the seal surfaces between the roller and the plates while the o has one. A lighter chain will have less unsprung weight for better suspension compliance but will be easier to break and wear out faster. The only bike I ever had with a 520 chain was less than half the weight and horsepower of a DL650. Don't try it.
